What tyres did an 88 Targa have when new?

I have to replace mine and thinking of buying Conti Sport Contact N2's

Not sure what the car came with in period, but I have just put Conti Sport Contacts N2 on my 1989 Coupe and I have to say the road holding seems better than the Khumo's I had on before. All subjective of course but I am very happy with them.

I shouldn't say this but there has been a very long discussion on tyre choice on the IBforum - well worth joining in addition to this excellent forum.

What wheel size combination do you have as finding 245's for 8 or 9 inch rears limits the choice.

As mentioned above there's a zillion threads on Impact Bumper forum about tyre's but general consensus is:
Bridgestone So2
Conti Sports
Toyo TR-1's or similiar

Hi

If it is on 15" wheels (which i doubt) then it could be either 185/70WR15 Pirelli Cinturato CN36 N4 and 215/60WR15 Cinturato CN36 N4 or 205/50R15 Pirelli Cinturato P7 N4 & 225/50R15 Cinturato P7 N4. that is what Porsche recommend hence the N4 homologation. Importantly though, they have a carcass structure that is perfect for these cars. (there is also a 285/40R15 P7 that is not N4 homologated, but we are selling loads of these to German Porsche)

this is probably why Porsche have also asked Pirelli to make a 205/55R15 P7 N4 & 225/50R16 P7 N4 which is what i think you will have fitted. last time i spoke to Pirelli, Porsche were very happy with the wet testing, and they were waiting for the results of the dry testing. in the near future they will also make a 245R45R16 P7 N4 if you have the wider rear wheels.

Currently the best set up on 16" wheels is the Michelin SX MXX3 though sadly they don't do a 225/50R16.

Out of interest the 245/45R16 tyres can fit on rims from 7.5" to 9"
