Driveshafts ....not torque tube

Anyone know the difference between S2/Turbo driveshafts and N/A ?

I've been given a really good price for two new units, not even exchange, they checked against my reg number but the part cross ref' number quoted comes back as a 951 unit so S2/Turbo.

Length is the same 531.5, could they just be thicker or are the CV's different ?

Cheers, Paul

do you have the Porsche Part Number, I can check what cars they were used on, the CV joints are all the same for 86 on

They cross ref to 951 332 038 03 , which I believe has been updated to 06, they list for Turbo and S2

The N/A part number starts with a 944

The quoted length for both shafts is the same, 531.5mm , if the CV's are identical then what can be the difference, only shaft diameter ?

cheers, Paul

EDIT *****

To confuse matters further, an online part number checker gives the aftermarket part number quoted , not the OE part number, as suitable for Turbo but a different part number suitable for both N/A and S2, again all measurements for both parts are identical.

So.....

It would appear it has to do with the number of splines on the drive shaft , Turbo has 25 bigger splines, N/A has 33 smaller splines.

The Turbo also has bigger ball bearings in the CV joint.

All other dimensions, length, bolt PCD etc are the same.

I am therefore assuming that if it is swapped as a complete assembled unit, shaft + CV's, it will fit and the N/A will then have stronger CV's.

Thinking about it, are the output splines compatible ie 33 as opposed to 25.

Its the actual splines on the shaft Jim that the CV goes onto and the boot covers.

The spline that goes through the hub bolts as a separate part to the driveshaft, this is matched to the hub spline which won't be changed, just swapped onto the new shaft.
