Wife would like a hard top for the Boxster (2009 Gen 2) but what would I need to fit one (apart from the top itself..)
Chances are if I find one it will be missing body clips etc, so need to understand what I need. this is a rare thing to find, but the search is on.
Thanks in advance,
Graham.

I have a gen 1 car with hardtop. Apart from the roof there is a plastic cover that goes over the locking mechanism above the rear view mirror. Nothing else.

I bought a hardtop for my 987 boxster
before I fitted it I had to have the female end fitted to the car where the hardtop slides into
this isn't normally found on the car unless it's already had a hardtop fitted as it's not needed for just the folding soft top
there's obviously a parts number and if you're very technical I suspect you could fit it yourself
I couldn't !!!
cost a hundred quid or so I think

Thank you both.
I'm sure I've read that the Gen1 and Gen 2 987 fitment is different.
The top I've seen is off a car, probably sold with the fittings.
A 987 is a very rare thing, so suspecting the fitting are too!

Does anyone know for certain if the Gen 1 and Gen 2 tops (as opposed to fittings) are in fact different?

Think I've answered my own question. The 987 has a set of inserts and bolts to the B post to allow the 987 top to locate and lock into.
About £100 the car from Design 911.

You may find they are cheaper from your OPC. My recent experience in buying a small part was that OPC and Design 911 gave approx the same price before VAT, but OPC gave 10% discount (much more than Design 911) and charged much less for postage (if needed). Worth checking at least.

Thank you, I have a Center only 8 miles down the road.
The top I've seen will need a re-paint to a colour to suit the car (Grand Prix white), anyone with an idea on cost to paint a hard top?

Yep
I bought a white top and had it painted cobalt blue like the rest of car!!
cost £200
and I got the other bits fitted at OPC Hatfield for £100 with pcgb discount
good luck
