I had the same on my 20k mile 2005 997. Was told it was road rash by the OPC and very common. Visit to the body shop.

Yep, easily sorted. Had the same on my Cayman. Most Porsche dealers will be used to sorting this out when prepping cars for sale. Sill-end respray.

I have seen another gen1 car with the same gravel rash problem, most escape it but for those who live down country lanes hard to not get it to some degree, since ht ebody is well galvanised internally it should be possible to get it cleaned up and treated before painting and maybe improved protection in the area

Any idea on the cost for getting this rectified? Got a bit on mine which I've treated but would rather have it done properly.

Thanks for the replies everyone, it appears not to be a big deal but needs sorting. I've got a guy for smart repairs / minor stuff so i'll post cost back when known and some pics to show resolved. Boxstercol, prices for your ref. Cheers all

when you get this sprayed I would ask the bodyshop to bring the stone guard paint up higher and prevent this happening again.

its common for the paint above the stone guard paint to chip of and cause surface rust - I think it's poor original design not to have covered the entire facing edge in stone guard paint.
