For those that use Photobucket

Hi John

Yes this is a real pain...it's hit me on a number of forum including this one but much more so on others with many years of build threads....I have now moved to Imgur and in the early stages of replacing images on my main build thread on a model engineering forum....I have already downloaded everything from PB and put it on Imgur which I have to say has a much better/smoother interface...

Is the quality as good? Difficult to tell as PB is now down for me, as with every other non-payer! Here's a quick download with Imgur, which does seem easy to use and quite quick to upload to.

Same with me. Easy enough to do a bulk download but populating old threads is a real chore.
i used PB for years...hated it but too lazy to change until now. If they think they can hold people to ransom, they are I fear going to be very disappointed. IMHO they are one foot on a bar of soap.

PB is still up for me and I'm a free user...well I was until this fiasco...

Question of time Geoff...it's caused massive probs on other forums I am on. Many of the really important tech articles on a Honda forum my son and I use has been decimated by these sods.....no warning, just did it.
They are working progressively....may loose their bottle and relent but I am inclined towards the view that they are dead meat as far as forum users are concerned.
My advice is take precautions as my Dad always told me

Doesn't Imgur publish all images in one vast public area v PB which kept subscribers' images private but allowed links for users to publish their images?

Testing my Photobucket... I'm only at 33% of my storage capacity, does this make any difference?

There was an option to download all of my pictures so I have them stored away from Photobucket now. It's going to be a task to edit all of my posts with the new pictures!

I have found the easiest is put the image on FaceBook (assuming you use it) and then link to the image url. Not that this is without issue as they re indexed the photo libraries recently and I had to redo all of the urls.

I have my own domain but have had that temporarily shut down in the past due to excessive band width use when I linked to photos there on a forum. I wont do that again.

It is a strange thing though; here we are complaining about having to potentially pay for a valued service. The other side of the coin we have Photographers sick of having their images stolen are happy, and to the large extent, prompted changes in on line photo sharing to try to protect their copyrights.

On the plus side, the image upload facility on this forum is much better than the old one.
