Fuchs Wheel Combinations?

I am looking for information on wheel combinations and which would be a good mix. At present I have a set of Fuchs alloys fitted. Size wise 7J X 16" fronts and 8J X 16" rears. Would the following combinations work: 7J X 16" fronts and 9J X 16" rears? Or, 8J X 16" Fronts and 9J X 16" rears?
Has anyone got experience of these combinations and if so are there any pit falls?

7&9 is fine (205/55 + 225/50 or 245/45*)

8&9 will work at a squeeze if you use the 951 8" Fuch at the front. The regular 911 8" Fuch will stick out too much.

* limited manufacturer choices

i use 7&9 (205/55 + 225/50)

Thanks for that. That (7X9) was the combination i was thinking of. I thought moving the rear 8s might be a little too much for the fronts.

Hi Ray,
yes the 7&9 combination works well and looks good. Was talking to a chap I know who went 8/9 and he switched back to 7 at the front as it affected the driving/steering.
i have some photos of his car next to mine which I'll dig out and post later if I can find them.
(genuine 9 s are not cheap nowadays)
regards

Graham

Graham,
Thanks for your thoughts. Just a pity I cannot get your photo's to load. I take your drift regarding the size especially on the front (8J X 16"). The cost of original 9J X 16" Fuchs rims is too steep for me and that is if you can locate a pair. My idea was to get a pair of replica's which look pretty good to me. I am sure some people may frown on the idea but do you know what, I don't care. As they say, my car my rules.
What I like about the wider rims is the fact that they fill out the wheel arches.

If all you're trying to achieve is to fill out the wheelarches, have you considered spacers? My car has them and the arches are filled nicely without making the car look like a rice-rocket drift car. Not sure how wide the spacers are (20mm IIRC), I'll have to check if you want to know.
You'll get to keep the original Fuchs and won't increase the understeer to any great extent (he runs for cover...)

You'll also need to decide what tyre sizes to go for. As you probably know, the car will be 'over-tyred' with added unsprung weight, which might add 'grip' but will be detrimental to ride and handling. .

Mine ARE Porsche spacers - but it's important that the geometry is restored after fittment (or better still, set up by Center Gravity...).
Besides, your car has a weird suspension set-up anyway Paul..!

I have 7&9's wearing 205/55 + 245/45 on my narrow bodied 3.2, works really well on the road and fills the arches nicely.
As mentioned above some have fitted 8's up front, depending on you Geo you may need to roll the arch lip to get clearance lock to lock.
Attached is a table I created when investing wheel and tyre choices for my car

Ditto,
Our cars are a good 27 plus years old and a full suspension refresh and Geo set up totally transforms the car.
