Short shift kit

Hi everyone, I'm considering the following two kits as I specifically want OEM:
http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod4202/Porsche-996-Short-Shifter-Unit-99742498300/

https://www.porscheshop.co.uk/porsche-performance-parts/porsche-996-performance-parts-1998-to-2005/porsche-996-gearbox-transmission-upgrades-1998-to-2005/short-shift-kit-996-986-oe.html

These look identical but the porscheshop part is only for the 996. Does anybody know the difference between these or have any personal experience using one of these?

Cheers,
John

I got my PSC to fit the Porsche part that is commonly fitted on the 997. It made a great difference and one of the best upgrades that I have made.

I bought a used 997 shifter kit from e bay, far cheaper and does the same job. A big improvement without being too notchy. The 997 shifter is I believe around 15% shorter throw, and its still oem.

The true Porsche short shift is now 99742498300 and supersedes other numbers and fits all models from 98-12 except Cayenne. Its about £200 from OPC. The Pshop one wont be Genuine (maybe a Google search will enlighten you if you are not aware of them), I would think you would get the part in the 2nd photo which can be bought from ebay for about £40.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll avoid the porscheshop part and get on to eBay and the OPC to see what I can find. Cheers, John.

Just an update on this... I collected part 99742498300 from opc east London. Cost £256 after pcgb discount. Great service from the chaps there too.

Hoping to install this weekend. Reading through guides it seems straightforward enough. Any tips will be welcome though! Thanks, John

I installed the short shift and really impressed with the way the gear-change now shifts and feels. In my opinion the car now feels as it probably should have done from standard! Its so much more precise in exactly the way a high performance sports car should be. I highly recommend this modification. If anybody needs guidance on the diy process for changing this part please ask. Thanks, John

No, I believe that is a different part. If you search the part I mentioned it should confirm which models its fitted to though.

Yes thanks, Richard.

So the part is common to the 1998 996 Carrera and the 2010 GT2 RS (GenII), is that right?

If it's good enough for a GT2 RS.......

Hi, I had a short shift kit fitted to my 996 Carerra 4 about 3 yrs ago, I ordered it online, sorry I can't remember who manufactured it,
It was fitted by a normal garage, ie not Porsche, came with fitting instuctions, the throw is much shorter than stock and it removes any play that you might have had in your gearstick, ie left right movement. I highly recommend it.
