GT4 Coolant Temperature

Recently I noticed that the coolant temperature on my GT4 was looking on the high side. As I continued to monitor it rose to 105C and I was getting concerned that it was going to overheat and I would have to pull off the motorway. I remembered that putting it in Sport Mode lowered the oil temperature and after switching Sport on, the coolant temperature fell back to the high 80s.

My experience with all other 981 and 991 series cars is that the coolant temperature is solid at 90C so I was surprised and concerned at these high temperatures.

I spoke to my local OPC and they now have the car to check it out. However, they can't see any fault with the car and are suggesting that the temperatures I have been experiencing may be normal. After discussion it was agreed that they would seek advice from Reading or Germany on what the coolant temperature should be but whilst awaiting their response I would be very interested in other GT4 owners' experiences.

The cooling system is set to run at 105 degrees C and reduces to 85 degrees when in Sport mode. The dash 90 degrees is displayed if water temperature is within a normal range, because we all us idiot drivers would worry if it showed the varying actual temperature.

Hi Terry,

Mine always goes to around 103 - 105 once fully warmed. In fact I won't drive it hard until it's reached 100. I never use Sport, btw. Don't like auto blip.

I'm sure yours is fine as far as temp is concerned. Ian

Following a lot of searching on the internet I eventually found a 120 page Porsche Service manual for the GT4 which, amongst a host of other facts, confirms that the normal operating temp is 105C and 85C in Sport mode. Exactly as Ralph correctly stated above.

I found the manual via Planet 9 and had to register to access the download. If anyone wants it and can't find it just PM me and I will find the link for you.
