Options List

We are just in the process of ordering a Macan S Diesel in white and wanted other owners' thought on options and specification. As it stands we want the full leather sports seats and sat nav. The dealer is saying we need car connect plus which I am not so sure of. We are happy with the standard wheels and no PASM as the car ride and handling seemed fine. I know we could easily add £20K to the price without thinking about it. Is there anything other owners would recommend and any options which people have specified which they wish they hadn't bothered with? All comments are appreciated.

Ah! You may be sorry you posted this question as you will no doubt receive many differing opinions.
For what it's worth, here are mine:-
  • Sports seats have high side bolsters and are not very practical on short journeys. Comfort seats with memory package may be a more suitable option unless you intend to do a lot of long distance touring.
  • LED Main headlights with PDLS - unless you don't drive at night. Big enhancement to darkness motoring.
  • ParkAssist front and rear - not the easiest motor to park and someone is bound to hit it otherwise.
  • PASM - don't buy a Porsche without a decent handling package!
  • 75 litre tank - don't forget to tick this n/c option or you'll regret it.
  • Auto dimming mirrors.
  • Light comfort package - a little extravagance but worth it. Gives you welcoming lighting and a glove box light too!
  • Smoker package - if you'd like a little door over the cubby hole below the shift lever.
We had to specify A/C extended into the rear cabin area, but this may be standard now as I can no longer see it in the options list.
I wouldn't bother with car connect plus either. It's something you don't need or will use.
Regards,

Clive

We have 20" alloys with the std suspension. It is a Porsche so it rides and handles perfectly well in std spec. The ride is excellent and on a 250 round trip over the weekend was perfectly comfy

the std speakers are also excellent, not sure you would need anything else in a car

if you have privacy glass the. Little need for dimming mirrors. See comment above about weekend trip

the light comfort package is great as it lights door pockets, foot wells, overhead light glows lovely white

the xenon are also excellent and a useful upgrade over halogens. Again, not sure you would need much else

Thanks for your input Clive.

I'll give it a think regarding the seats as we do quite a few short journeys.
I fancy the lights but nearly two grand for LED's is expensive. I may just go for Xenons
I think parking sensors front and rear are standard so I'm happy with those without the camera.
I don't have PASM on My Cayman S and didn't feel the demonstrator needed it even on the fast roads of North Wales.
I have the smoking package on my Cayman S which was a no cost option but found the hole useful for phone storage in the Macan although I think it looks much better with the lid.
Agreed on the light comfort package which I also have on the Cayman.
I think A/C is included in the back.
That's what I'm thinking too about car connect plus.
Yes the tank is a no brainer, why would anyone want a smaller fuel tank. The car is hardly a lightweight anyway!

Regards,

Gary

Forgot to mention dimming mirrors which you pointed out and I agree is also a must having been used to one for the past 12 years although I didn't spec it in the Cayman. Which wheels did you opt for Clive? Thanks also "gtipirelli" for your comments. I just thought the privacy glass made the cabin quite dark in the demonstrator we borrowed for the weekend. I thought the standard speakers sounded fine too.

I have reversing cameras on both cars, the guidance lines on the screen are very useful for parking in tight spaces and reversing around bends (though I usually take bends in a forward direction!).

As David says, the reverse camera is very useful, but the rear end collects dirt quite readily, so the camera lens needs to kept clean. I've heard some punters complaining their picture was rubbish being fuzzy and unclear, until they're reminded to use a cloth! [:(]

Your Cayman is lower, lighter and stiffer whereas the Macan is higher, heavier and softer. We use the PASM constantly - usually in semi-stiff mode since this reduces pitch and roll. Personally I would spec this ahead of other options, but it all depends on your driving style, I guess.
We chose 20" SportDesign wheels as per this photo. Look good and are easy to keep clean. If you choose 21" wheels, you'll need air suspension (or so I'm told). [;)]

[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I agree, the standard sound system is more than adequate.
The thing to remember with options is that they lose their value as soon as you've written out the cheque! [&:]

Thanks again for your input Clive although I think you've sent me an image of possibly some Speedlines on a Subaru. I do like those Sport Design 20" wheels. The demonstrator had the 19" Macan Turbo alloys fitted. What body colour did you opt for?

I'm refining my options right now, hoping for call soon to 'lock down'.
Perhaps better to say what I am NOT adding, and why.
Privacy glass - I have it now and don't really like the look on a dark car (nightblue). When reversing, after dark I cannot see through either rear side window to judge going around a corner as I have to do to get in my own drive, so I open the rear window to see, I know I can look at the rear camera view but it's not the same as the Mk1 eyeball.
Bose - I have it now, it's OK but apparently not worth the £801 extra.
Sunroof - Will never use it, should make the car a bit quieter, with pebble grey, the interior will be light enough.
Smoker Pack - I like the recess for holding small things.
21" wheels - have had lots of 35 profile tyres, far too easy to kerb lovely wheels causing aggravation even if insured.
All weather tyres - prefer proper summer tyres, and will not venture out in snow and icy conditions.
LED's - the comments seem to indicate that Xenons are good enough, mine certainly are.
Comfort lighting pack - the few extra lights are not worth the cost.
Roof rails - we'll never use them, prefer the look without them.
Sports Exhaust - not worth the extra for noisy exhaust note, although I have it now and it's fabulous.
Sports Chrono - will never use it.
Connect + - will never need live google maps, and don't want the extra cost of another SIM contract.
18 way seats - side bolsters just too high and I won't be driving in a manner that needs all that support.
Power steering plus - most say it's not necessary and can be added later as a software update if low speed steering is too heavy.

Extras I WILL order.
Carmine Red, 19"(SD) or 20"(GTS) wheels, Air, Sat Nav, Porsche crest on headrests (SD), heated seats, Surround view, Sports design mirrors, rear section painted (SD),Auto cruise control, dimming mirrors, mech rear blinds, heated front seats, 14 way seats and the alloy fuel cap (only an option on a GTS) at £89 because it looks good.

My spec is for comfort, on an SD about £57,300, on a GTS about £63,100. Not sure whether to go GTS - range anxiety/higher VED but would love the petrol engine or stick with an SD - economy lower VED and adequate performance.

In my opinion, minimum spec should include Xenons and Sat Nav, everything else up to you, that will get you a GTS for £56,240 or an SD for £46,994, whatever you order - they are great cars.

Ooops sorry - bit of a senior moment there [:(], but well spotted - and it's a Mitsubishi Airtrek Turbo S actually!
BTW I've now changed the photo. [:)]

The car is currently on some 19" Macan Turbo donor wheels. I'll take a photo and post it tomorrow when it's light.

Thanks Clive for the updated photo. Your car looks great in Rhodium Silver. Thanks Bigboyrolo for your spec list. On the demonstrator, the mirrors didn't seem to fold when the car was locked and the button had to be pressed on the door. Can this be programmed?
I think we're getting there with the specification:-
White exterior, Black Interior
Xenons
Black roof rails and window surrounds, not that we'll use them but look good on a white car and complement the black side mouldings
Satnav
Porsche Crests
Coloured Centre Caps
Smoker Package
14 Way Seats
Comfort lighting pack
Dimming mirrors
Still not sure on wheels but probably stick with standard S wheels or Macan Turbo 19"

Mirrors, on my 2015 car, they cannot be programmed to close when locking, they can, as you realise, be closed with a long press on the key. However, I find this a faff, so now fold them as I switch off using the button on the door panel.

Your spec seems to have the most important items, Sat Nav and 14 way seats that have driver and passenger memory - 'er indoors likes the memory, changes it every trip. No mention of rear camera or surround?
My 19" wheels are fine, a nice big fat tyre protecting the wheel.

Is the white the £0.00 option or the metallic £608 option?

[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]On mine, the door mirrors fold if you press the locking button twice. Keep it depressed and it will shut all open windows and pano roof too. Thanks for the picture with the Macan Turbo wheels and conformation on mirrors etc. Dare I ask why you have these wheels fitted? Here is a photo of the demonstrator we borrowed. I think it looks nothing in black as all the details just merge in to one. The only black Porsche I would entertain would be a 911 Targa.

The darker colours do tend to show up the dirt, chips and scratches more readily, so cleaning/repairing can be an ongoing process.
My PC lent me set of 19" whilst we await delivery of 2 new 20" front boots.
Regards,

Clive

Hi, I didn't get it and have regretted it!. In terms on connectivity - its a must as I am struggling to find an "aftermarket" product as Porsche have informed me it cannot be retrofitted. That said, they did recently announce it is now 2standard" but I don't know which models its on
