The new owner did our MOT last year and again last week, seems fine. Quite busy which has to be some reassurance.

I'd heard this rumour as well, and it led to me going to Colchester OPC for my MOT last year, however - what's happened is that one of the two original partners has sold his share to a new chap. For some reason the story got around that they were closing.
Anyway, I've been back twice this year in January for a Major Service and March for an MOT and I'd say the mechanical service side is the same exceptional standard, but the customer service is actually better than before too.

Here is the quote from the OPC does this sound ok?

Dear Mr

Thank you for your enquiry, my name is Steve Knight and I am the Service Supervisor here at Porsche Centre Colchester.

I have looked into your request and can now provide you with the following information:-

Bloody expensive!!!!

As a guide at Carrera Engineering the price of a 12,000 mile service is 400UKP!!!!

Yesus, that made me wince!
For reference, a Major Service on my 997 including both Brake Fluid and Drive Belt change was £529 at Autostrasse this year.

Must be a typo or something. That price would suggest they are charging £150 to £200, or more, an hour? I appreciate Porsches can be complicated but do they really need to employ surgeons to work on them?

Methinks they don't want the hassle of working on the older cars and are pricing for "Money no Option" new car owners.

Not sure what they deem a classic at the moment but service for my 3.2 at PC Cambridge is about £250 so they're not all avoiding the older "older cars" if that's the case with this example. I'd cry if it were best part of a £1000 for the service! Ouch!

update 9.5.2016

1. I sent this to the OPC in reply to its reply to me as above on 28.4.2016

Thanks

Can you tell me what is included in the service?

Sent from my iPad

to date I have received no reply so as others have concluded, I do not think that they are interested in servicing old Porsches, more worryingly they maybe do not have staff capable of servicing them?

2. I rand autostrasse this morning and asked to speak to Ken or Alan and was told that they both retired last year and have nothing to do with the business. A search at companies house too shows that neither Ken or Alan or directors, secretaries or shareholders of the company that now operates autostrasse.

3 so my search continues!

Hi Guys

The quotation from Porsche Centre Colchester has just been brought to my attention and as the Senior Aftersales Manager responsible for this business I have fully investigated the issue. The price of £922.23 is incorrect and was priced in error by a new member of staff who has only been there a few weeks. The price should have been £565 plus VAT which is to carry out the full Porsche 12,000 mile service using genuine Porsche parts and a high grade oil, alternatively and in line with Porsche Centre Cambridge we can carry out a Classic Minor Service on any air cooled 911 for £250 plus VAT. I would also like to take this opportunity to confirm that we are very interested in servicing and repairing all the classic Porsche models and have 4 technicians who each have over 20 years Porsche experience and love working on these models. Please accept my apologies for any confusion caused and rest assured that we will be in contact with Mr Davies.

Regards

Gary Sorrell
General Aftersales Manager

No one mentioned DSD Motorwerks in Billericay!
Dave there is the go to guy for all Porsche models, but especially air cooled stuff.
Its worth the visit just to see his 935 K3 he built!

Thanks for that gary

Well this week I took the car to Porsche Colchester and Gary's people carried out the full service plus replacing the transmission oil, replacing the gasket and adjusting the wheel bearings and for the price quoted plus the extras. They provided a courtesy car as the service was spread over two days, as the engine needs to be cold before they can adjust the tappets. Despite the changeable weather I managed to keep the car dry, I don't think it has been out in the rain for over 10 years now! Before carrying out the service, they carried out a complimentary health check and the technician who carried out the work, who I was told had over 40 years experience working on Porsche made a video highlighting the areas of concern. They also washed and valeted the car before I collected it. Plus I got a main dealer stamp in the service history.

thanks to Gary and his people, much appreciated

Good to read all the above posts. I embarked on Porsche ownership in May with a 2009 Cayman 987. And one of the things I did research was running costs. I came to the conclusion back then that you can run something like a Cayman without having to remortgage the house every service. So reading through the posts has given me more reassurance. Now I just need to figure out how to explain to the wife why I now need a 981 S...

Try PIE performance (just over the boarder in Suffolk). Very friendly, professional and honest. Real enthusiasts too. Tell them Duncan sent you.
