I fitted these to my 981, not 100% happy with them and decided to return them.  The service from Zunsport was excellent it was just my choice leaving the look of the car as it was intended.

Richard, was it the finished look you were not happy with?
When this post first started I thought it was just another gimmicky bodywork accessory. But, after looking into my radiator areas I noticed a large build up of leaf's and some sweet wrappers. I like the idea of grills but at the moment I am a little reluctant to purchase a set as I have this feeling I could be disappointed with the final look as Richard appears to be (you did well to get a refund).

Hi Ray,

I saw a 981 Cayman S at Chatsworth show earlier this year, and also thought these would be a good addition to protect debris / stones etc getting to the radiators. They looked really good and i decided to get a set for my 981 Cayman S

It was the fit of each individual piece. They did not seem fit the apertures exactly or feel completely secure.  I made several attempts to fit them but decided i did not want to damage the grills or my car.

i contacted Zunsport a couple of times for advice / assistance, and i have to say they could not have been more helpful and told me if i was not happy to send them back for a refund which they did.

What year is your vehicle Richard? Mine is a 2013 model with sensors and day running lights but I havent come across a "You Tube" video showing the fitment. There are some instructional video's on the subject and some look awkward and some look childs play.

Hi Ray

Mine is 2014 also with parking sensors.  I watched the clip. Zunsport don't supply any cable ties and they are not intended to be held on in this way, perhaps they did not feel comfortable the grills were wholly secure? this was my thought also.

Zunsport website shows a fitting video and some instructions come with the grills, but it still took me a while to figure it out.

I ordered a set from Zunsport before I was aware of the club discount. Silly me. Lesson, always ask questions on the Forum. I fitted them relatively easily though my old bones complained. They look very good, OEM quality in fact. Not aware of any loss of cooling but air temperatures are not testing just now.
Before installing I found debris lodged at the base of the radiators which I removed and confirms the rightness of the decision to fit grilles.

I am cack handed and Zunsport are only 1 hour from where I live, so I mad an appointment to have them fitted and it was done in about an hour. Pleasant drive there and back and really pleasant people too. Full front set of grills for 981 GTS (5 grills). PCGB discount given, no questions. Really pleased and no more crawling around on the floor to get leaves out of the rads. I lost a rad to a stone in my last car, 987.2 S, so lesson learned.

Yep I've got the Zunsports on my 987.1
I bought the car with a weeping a/c condenser, haggled on price so I could pay for this to be replaced and it was the first job I had done in the first week of ownership.
The following day I fitted Zunsport black grilles.
Fit like a dream, took me about 20 mins to do both sides, so no stress there.
They look oem, great fit on the 987.1 outer vents.
I got mine before joining the club but managed to get the 15% Facebook discount.

Just about to order a set.  Contacted Zunsport as there appears to be 2 options for the GTS. With or without ACC.
Adaptive cruise control!!
Apparently there is a camera in the centre aperture of the centre grille!
For those that don't Know (like i didn't)
So Zunsport take account in their supply.
Hope this helps
Oh and many thanks for obtaining a discount code Kevan.

William,

Although grilles are available for the 981 Cayman I'm not sure if that includes the GT4 since you have the additional air scoops. Probably best to give them a call to check availability and they'll also be able to confirm if the discount is available too.

I think you'll find it is permanent; the same discount % is available via Suburu forum and rennlist among several others.

Maybe time for an update. The grills fitted to my 981S still look very good and doing an excellent job of keeping rubbish away from the radiators. At the time of a recent full service they were admired by the service team and their usefulness confirmed. They explained they regularly replace rotting and leaky radiators because of debris build up. Also, even in recent very hot weather water and oil temperatures remained within normal limits, so no detrimental effect from the grills.
I note comments about grills not fitting. I have to admit I had initial difficulty matching the grills to the appropriate appatures. Eventually I worked it out! My excuse; my old brain works in mysterious ways.
On a cheerful note I have booked my car in to have the Porsche switchable sports exhaust retrofitted. My other half thinks I am bonkers, but despite being 80 I have a teenager's love of loud flat six's on full song. Traffic and laws being what they are full chat engine mode is rarely attainable, so hopefull this new exhaust will produce the thrill at lower velocity.
I have yet to try the newer flat four turbo, which is doubtless a brilliant car, but from the sidelines it farts its way which somehow does not provide the same thrill. Emotion after all plays a very significant role in the pleasure of the car enthusiast. Even F1 recognises their current cars' sound lacks the emotional kick necessary to keep the sport alive and plan new regulations to improve this aspect. So I wonder will Porsche reintroduce normally aspirated engines below the track focused models? Probably not now the focus is on the silence of electric motivation.

Hi Strasbourg (Richard?),
Very impressed with your enduring flexibility! I only hope that my ageing joints still allow me access to my Cayman in ten years time.
On the subject of N/A v. Turbo 4 noise, I just have to put in my twopennyworth in support of the Turbo 4. I've had a 987, 981 and now a 718 and i'll accept that it doesn't sound as good, but in every other respect the 718 is a better car and more to the point, it's faster.
But we all love our Porsches, whatever they are, so we're all happy.
Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob,
As I mentioned in another post my remark was tongue in cheek. I acknowledged how good the 718 is in all other respects. I appreciate that a turbo4 will have better low to middle range grunt which in most normal circumstances is what will contribute to better point to point times. Ironically I greatly enjoyed my Chesil Speedster which had twin Webbers and whistled on full throttle and delivered good straight line performance. Trouble is I then bought a beautiful 993 with Hans Metzger's famous engine. At full chat on the German Autobahn the sound was better than a symphony orchestra at the Proms. Like many things elicit, once tasted never forgotten. I am sure I too would adjust to a new sound once I felt the throttle response. With advancing years I have to indulge my little prejudices and hope you will forgive me that.
My love of all things Porsche goes back a long way when my father took me as a young lad to Blandford military camp where sprints were organised by the West Hants & Dorset Car Club. He was there for the bikes but I fell upon Denis Jenkinson and his 356 with Monza Exhaust. Also, Denis was there with his racing bike but it was the Porsche which set me alight. Ironic again, the 356 is a four cylinder. I bumped into him again many years later at Brooklands and mentioned how he had sparked my love of Porsche. Though long since retired he, to my astonisment, recalled the event. His Grand Prix reporting across Europe was legendary and made possible by the reliability of his 356. A great and very brave man and all done with a four cylinder. When the Porsche needed to be changed he chose a six cylinder Jaguar E Type. Ironic or what.
Richard.
