981 Boxster S - Horn stickin

Hello, I have never had to sound my horn so not noticed that I had the same problem, it was discovered when mine had its first service at 2 years old and fixed under warranty, so I assume it seems to be a known issue.
 
I have a 981 Boxster S.

I find that the horn sticks from time to time when I press it. Anyone else have this problem?

What I mean by the horn 'sticking' is that if I go to do a light/non-aggressive tap of the horn (which is how I usually press it), the horn seems to stay a bit depressed and the sound of the horn continues for longer than I intend. Not good if someone sees a chap in a convertible Porsche seemingly slamming on their horn in an aggressive manner!

Any fixes?

Was a sticking shims fault on 987.2 and when my car was serviced 2 weeks ago I mentioned I had read it was a known fault and new shims are now supplied but when I sat down and read my bill the bar stewards had lubricate horn switch £20.00[:eek:] Had I know then were going to charge for a known fault I wouldn't have bothered as my siliconing the area over 12 months ago seemed to have done the trick[&o]
 
I had the same problem. Applied the lubricant spray you get after your service at the OPC and this freed it off.
 
Think it's a known problem. The horn on my 981 stuck on shortly after I bought it. Fortunately I was very close to my OPC when it happened; they knew all about the problem and fixed it fairly quickly.

 
Sports steering wheel specific....Take the airbag out, and lube the extremities, more focus on the lower right hand side.

Also lube the retaining spring at the back of the steering wheel and lift up and down a few times to make sure is lubricated

The key here is to make sure the black core horn/airbag lead does not get caught.

I use a small thin blade to lift up the wiring and feed in the airbag, the right hand side has a recess specifically for it ...as you push the airbag in pull out the blade to the wire sits in the recess...

Bingo - one horn fixed.
