Hi guys , I'm a little unwell so I've not been around so much, however 'Porsche Buddies' is ready for testing (thanks Jeff Maynard).
Firstly by showing that you are up for the scheme (I suggest you put the spanner icons in your signature.) you are not obligated to anyone or anything it's just a way of letting other people know that you are definitely up for helping out where it's convenient and there's a meeting of minds and purpose. It will be a great way of meeting other club members some of whom may not live that far away.
Don't worry about the ratings, if you look at my SC Gallery you might think I'm pretty useful with a spanner yet I've only given myself a 2 spanner rating, that is because I am limited physically to tackle some jobs so 2 sounded about right. I would say someone who does a lot of work on there Porsche and has a good technical grasp of how it's put together would be a 2 or three. If you were a two or three spanner buddy but you had a large well equipped garage or workshop you liked to share then you would be a three or four icon buddy. A one spanner buddy could be someone who is just keen to learn, could offer garage space and/or tools or wants to learn and meet other Porsche owners. It's often nice to have someone to chat to whislt you are working on your car. Also Melvin Spear runs a trailer service and he would be a 'Porsche Buddy' so a Porsche buddy could be anything really except perhaps a Ferrari owner!
Let 's not get anal about the spanner ratings for now we'll trial the scheme and see how it goes. If you really want me to give you a rating email me but if you're not up to scratch I'll have to put you in detention.
To insert a spanner icon in your signature go to your profile and insert this tag in your signature [SM=SPANNER5.gif]. Replace '5' with however many spanners you think appropriate and put it all in lower case, I have written it here in upper case otherwise instead of instructions you would be seeing spanners.
I'm posting an edited version in the general forum too and over the next few months Iwant to get 'Running Reports ' up and running and start trying to persuade the club to think about equipping the Buddies with some tools.

Incidentally my SC is still not back on the road I haven't driven it since October 2003, I'm gutted.

Well done Bones>>>!
You've managed to bring about a change. Good stuff.
Ok then, This spanner rating; we decide ourselfs to what degree we are at?
It seems a little big-headed, but hell, who cares.
I reckon I'd be a three spanner; there's not much I won't have a crack at, and I have a garage, tools, etc.
Lets see what happens now.
get well,

That's great Peter and I'm perking up already, for quick reference I wonder if ALL members could include their location undeneath their avatar as it's not a security issue unless I'm missing something.

Bones

Great that you've got this up and running. Reckon I should probably be 1/2 a spanner but 1 will have to do! Hopefully should now be attached to the signature.

All this warm weather and no drive! You must be really fed up!!! All the best with getting it back on the road.

Well, lets try this spanner thing.

I think one is too many for me, but at least I know where the engine is !

But, I am prepared to try helping out, I am good at using rude words at the tools I am using, and, more to the point, I understand car electrics (mostly, and in particular 'old' cars, like mine).

And, Bones has shown what can happen if he nags enough people, enough of the time !

That's great John and Martin, Admin have been very encouraging about this so praise is due there. It occurred to me that this scheme isn't available to non forum using members so if all goes well in a few months I'll do a write up about it for PP and if enough people want to be included in the scheme PP could include an insert with members contact details on.

That's great Bones - well done for getting this up and running, and credit to Jeff for buying a nice set of spaner gifs

I've put myself down as a 2 spanner. I'm happy changing regular service items like oil, filter, plugs etc, I've changed brake pads and disks umpteen times, 944 wastegates several times, rear shocks once and had most of the interior trim out at some point. My next major task is to swap over my dashboard when I get back from Le Mans (I am not looking forward to that and petrified I will introduce many, many squeaks and rattles )

That's great Paul I take full credit for the spanners, I only wish I could draw some chrome vanadium ones up on the computer, an engine stand, a large garage, and a pert young blonde to polish my tools would be useful too.

I have been a bit sneaky and gone for 2 1/2 as some areas of the 944 am very confident others not so, and being a bit modest felt 3 would be too much!

Will follow Peter's train of thought and go a 3-spanner - though am happy farming jobs on the car out at the minute as no time to do it myself....

Nice job Bones mate!

As you come from Lancashire you definitely qualify for at least one spanner!

Bones,

I have added one spanner to my signature as you suggested (post anti roll bar 'success').

I have the builders here at the moment, so have virtually no driveway to work on. My garage is too small, so any work has to be outside on a fine day.

This is an excellent idea, and if anyone is near Stratford-upon-Avon, then do let me know.

Hi Ian, am about 35/40 mins from you, go through Stratford regularly to get to where we store our camper over near Evesham, meet anytime for a coffee and a chat and hope to see you at Walton Hall on July 18!

Cheers, JG

John,

Have made a note in my diary to get over to Walton Hall, although not even far enough to warm the car up (will have to go the long route there). Have not attended before, as only had the car just over a year.
