Important: Old immobiliser fobs won't be available for much longer

I visited an OPC for a recall on the engine loom yesterday. I've got the old bog-standard immobiliser keyfob you slot into the dashboard (not an alarm). The chap said that Porsche are stopping supplying them, and if I needed a spare get one done now whilst they're still available.

I've ordered one, I do have a spare but that's a bit knackered, the one I use was the spare I think, and even this one now occasionally needs a few prods.  Cost £20+VAT which is worth the peace of mind - and somewhat cheaper than having the immobiliser replaced.

If you've got one of them and could do with a spare, get one whilst you still can.

Top tip, as one of mine is held together with sellotape :-)

What details do you need to supply to get one?

cheers

You need to take it to an OPC, they have a reader which reads the code and can programme a new one.

My 'spare' is also held together with sellotape... must be a common future of early 993's :)

I (foolishly) sent off my immobiliser certificate to Adrian Flux when I first took out insurance with them and they lost it, so OPC Wilmslow have ordered a few blanks and will re-issue one for me.

I've always wondered what that slot with a few gold contacts was for.  The immobiliser was replaced on my car a few years before I got it - so I guess it because redundent then.

Johnny thanks for the 'heads up', I have been putting this job off (oh OK I just keep forgetting to ask the OPC to sort out a new one). Guess I had better get on with it - one is held together with tape and the other is not looking too clever...

If you are talking about the Porsche Immobiliser "receptor", these are made by Hamilton &Palmer for Porsche. To renew the receptor is simple but the technique destroys the old fitting! 4 soldered connections and away!
Receptors/keys (AKA dongles) are £35 each plus P&P and VAT

I have a couple of spares from my old 3.2, left over from when I had the system upgraded.

If anybody needs them (free of charge) let me know. I presume they can be re-programmed

Exactly as Pete B states. The immobiliser and keys are supplied by Hamilton and Palmer . google for a phone number. H&P can supply everything you need or alternatively go to an OPC and pay twice the price. The OPC get them from Hamilton and Palmer anyway.

Interesting then that Porsche say they will no longer supply the fobs - it appears to cost them nothing to supply/make (if they simply source them from H&P) and will make a turn on them.

Think I am too off to the OPC as, unless I am reading this wrong, £20+VAT at OPC is less than £35+VAT at H&P.

One of my fobs is held together with superglue, the other one is broken, but still functioning somehow.

Time to call Lovetts me thinks.

I found that OPC (well Paragon, but it amounts to the same thing) prices for the remote alarm fob were a lot lower than direct from H&P.  I did not ask about the immobilizer dongle - but it sounds like the same situation.  Strange - but maybe Porsche have old stock to clear...

Thanks for this important info. I have previously replaced one but the other hangs together courtesy of sellotape. I have re-ordered today. You fellows are so helpful

Hi

Asked about a new Immobiliser Fob and a new key today

Was advised that I needed to produce several pieces of indentification, and then they would access the details of the immobiliser fob, and order one - expected delivery time 5 days

Then asked about a new key - Torch head etc is £22, and then £58... for a new key blank

Looking on EBay I see apparently genuine key blanks, with head and key body available for between £8 (from Bulgaria...) and £24 (from Germany)

Has anyone used one of these EBay keys - any problems with the supplier or getting the key cut to match an existing key?

Cheers

Pete

I had a senior moment with  the immobiliser on the 964 last Thurs  morning.Car all packed with tools & luggage to catch the ferry to our cottage on the IOM at 11.15am in Liverpool.Drove off to vote at 9.25am,forgot the reg card,so came back home to pick it up & stopped engine whilst I went in house.Came back to go to vote & then to carry on to Liverpool; no bleeps,no nothing.Tried spare fob, still nothing. Now no time to investigate,so panic, panic transfer everything to 924S(BMW in dock) & leave my wife carless over the 5 day week end as I was going on my own.
Called appletonn to have a look, checked battery,DME,fuses-still nothing.
Got back early Tues am,rang H & P for hints later in the day;I have to say that Jim(who works part time but fortunately on Tues & Thurs),was very helpful and gave me a check list starting with the fuses. After work, last night, opened drivers door, moved drivers seat right back & what did I find right under the seat?-a black fuse block  C/W 2 3 amp fuses loose on the carpet.A quick look under the dash revealed the 4 black Lucar terminated wires dangling free.It took 5mins to put them back into the aforesaid fuseblock, wrap black insulation tape round the Lucar end of things, then fasten the assembly up to adjacent loom section with a ratchet strap.Phew, what a relief-Any moral- just check under the dash for this block & make sure it's OK.Normal main problem is that the fuses can work loose according to H&P,after that it's the receptor which can work loose and turn easily leading to a wire coming loose,or it reads only one side of the fob,so try the fob in the other way round.
The car then started instantaneously.

Does anybody know if the immobiliser fobs are still available?  I'm just looking at buying a 993 and it only has one!

Thanks,

At the last count,H&P can supply new fobs by return post-for around £20,if I remember correctly. They obviously need the appropriate numbers & identity.

OPC at Tonbridge read my dongle on Wednesday and posted me a new one Friday, I got it Saturday - £19.34 inc VAT and posted free.

Comes in a bag marked Hamilton & Palmer 01732 760022

Just bought my new 993 and I wanted a spare.    When I ordered there was no mention of not going to be available for long.

I bought two from H and P (very helpful) and they didn't know anything about the lack of future availability.

Whilst I was there I talked to Jim about my remote fob not working. It's from an early 993 pre PA1000 I got a replacement control box and two new remote fobs for about 120 pounds. Simple job unplug the existing and plug in new. The two in line fuses can corrode so replaced these as well and bingo works perfectly
