PSE problems

Car did not sound right today (981 GTS), with PSE on.
Quick look underneath revealed that the passenger side exhaust valve spindle was stuck halfway between up and down. Drivers side was fully down ( i.e. open).
Managed to free it with WD40 and copper ease spray.
Any other advice for this recurring fault would be appreciated.
I lubricate them and manually move them every month or so but this still happens
 
Not found anything that will prevent it, the flap - valve ends up sticking - seizing internally. I used to lubricate the spindles and always exercised them in use but stick - seize they still do

My nearside silencer - muffler was replaced under warranty last year as a result of a seized valve, a £2200 job if out of warranty

Despite them not being a changeable item according to OPC, and them kindly offering to relieve me of £2k+ to change the entire back box, the actuators (on the 987 at least) are EXACTLY the same as on a 997 911, which are able to be bought separately for about £100.

it’s 3 bolts and a circlip to swap the valve actuator off/on the back box.

Unfortunately on a 987 the rear bumper needed to come off to access those 3 bolts. However on the 981 I think they’re actually easier to access without the need to remove the bumper.

Ordered some high temp silicone spray, will clean all crud off and coat with spray first

 
The nearside valve was seized on my 981S when I bought it 5 years ago. I managed to free it off and manually check it regularly and it's been fine until late last year (about 15K miles into my ownership).

Since then a couple of times I've un-clipped the actuator rod from the ball joint on the spindle crank arm, placed an 8mm ring spanner over the ball joint and used the spanner in a push/pull fashion to rapidly cycle the valve through its full range of motion many times over a couple of minutes whilst repeatedly spraying the shaft with WD40. The spanner makes it much easier to rapidly cycle the valve and I'm hoping this regular multiple cycling and lubrication will keep the valve/spindle operating smoothly. So far so good.

 
I guess it is a farly harsh environment for moving parts - lots of heat and road spray. I have the same problem on mt 2015 GTS but now a check and some lubrication seems to be as common as refilling the screenwash bottle. On the 981 it is easy to get some mole grips on the lever.

 
As recommended by a Porsche tech every couple of months I work the valve manually and lightly spray the visible mechanism with 3-in-1 aerosol copper grease. So far so good.

 
The problem has recurred frustratingly

Switched PSE on before starting car after work. Halfway through drive home I noticed a change in the exhaust note.

Once home I checked and saw passenger side valve was stuck in halfway position.

Left it 30 mins to cool and the valve had returned to the open position.

Does anyone know whether it is possible to somehow weld or fix the valve in the open position?

Failing that , any recommendations for an aftermarket or custom system ? Looking for nice deep sound, nothing high pitched / shrieky

forgot to add,will this stuck valve have damaged my engine? Due to different back pressure on each bank?

 
The valves default open when engine is off, remove the vacuum lines from the actuators and plug them

Not done this myself hence unsure of any consequences ...

NB ... any faults with the vacuum system for the valves is shown as a Yellow Coolant Warning on the instrument cluster :rolleyes:
