Has anybody installed the RENNLINE LED headlight conversion?
I have the kit but when connected the relay integral in the lights buzzes loudly … ignition switch position 1 …
Halo side lights work fine & if I disconnect them it makes no difference …
Any clues please? I’m not aware of this age car having Canbus & needing any sort of ballast resistor …

HI
Sounds like you have no earth to me.
Photo of the connections would be good.

Charles.

Hi Charles,
Thanks for responding …
Some pics attached here …
In the simple drawing this works when connected direct to the battery terminals & lashed up with some wires …no buzzing of relay
The second sketch is the wiring connector to connector all through with wire colours so I can see what’s happening & the relay connections …
Photo is the adaptor harness they supply to headlight loom … no sidelights or indicators connected to try & isolate the problem … I’ve tried a cable direct from brown earth wire on the original headlamp connector direct to battery -ve & made no difference …

Having looked today I find that if I put an original headlight bulb back in the holder & turn on sidelights only it lights up but not to full intensity … turning on headlights brightens it …
Connecting a relay coil directly across the lamp terminals it buzzes … meter it & it measures about 3.5v dc so enough to light a lamp but not enough to operate the relay without it chattering … so where is that voltage coming from? Pulled a few fuses, earthed again directly without change … so the relay buzzing is because the connector has 3.5 v dc permanently across the headlight connector when side lights only are switched on … ?????

Hi
You may have the dim dip relay under the passenger floor boards just unplug it
and leave it unplugged. for ever.
it was a for runner to day light running lights.

Also do you know that on main beam you also have dip beam on at the same time.

Charles.

Hi Charles,
That's a fix ... now re-wired all the connectors to cut out some of the rubbish they glow in the dark complete with Halo rings for sidelights ... shame nobody appears to do an indicator delete kit so i could use the Halo indicators as well ... now we'll see if it's all MOT compatible ...
Need to find a wiring diagram that shows this relay in situ for others ...
Appreciate your help & the follow up call ... owe you a cold beer for knowing about the relay ... will update with Rennline in due course ...
Andrew
