Main beam headlights not working

Hi - has anyone had issues with the main beam not working on their SC?

When the car was serviced this year they told me the main bean was not working but everything was connected OK. So I pulled out the headlight beam/ indicator arm and the switches look and test OK? The headlight switch unit seems to be working OK also and there does not appear to be a headlight relay fitted.

Has anyone come across this with their SC? I have ordered a headlight relay kit but not sure this will resolve the issue - the main beam was working previously so it's a bit of mystery. I have attached a pic of the headlight fuse and wires if that helps?

Hi,
I have replaced my headlight beam arm on my SC. The switch burned out from use. I also have changed the light switch itself.
The main beam does not go via a relay. The power comes through the ignition switch, through the light switch, then through the indicator
arm, then through fuse 7 right or fuse 8 for left then to the bulb then to ground via the brown wire.
You can check for +12V with a multimeter through the the whole system.
Does the flash work?
I hope this helps,
Rich

Hi Rich - thank you for the help re this. Yes the flashers do work and the dipped beam also but when you pull the stalk for headlight flash it only activates the dipped beam and I think it should power up both the dip and main beam elements of the H4 bulbs?

Looks like the switch on the stalk is faulty as it never separates and bottom two copper contacts. How did you determine that your light switch was defective - was no power going through it or something else?

The other weird thing I have is that the fuse board does not seem to have the incoming supply for the high beam connected - I am wondering is someone moved over the high beam input to stop the high beam being on all the time when the stalk switch started to fail?

Hi,
My SC started to have intermittent full beam operation when using the arm stalk. I examined it and it was past its best.
Sounds as though someone has been fiddling with your setup.
Best to get it back to stock.
Rich
