981 Boxster S - OPC Warranty

Hi guys

Have a 981 Boxster S which I bought from my local OPC. Have just had a replacement trim fitted around the PDK selector and now my roof doesn't open. I'm not sure if the two are linked, but just wondered if anyone had experience of using the warranty Porsche offer in similar situations.

I'm also finding heavy condensation in both headlamp units and loose door trim on the passenger side so would like these issues addressed too.

Any experiences you have had, it would be good to know how they looked after you. Thanks in advance.

Matt

I think the only way to truly know is to speak to the service department at your OPC. They'll be able to tell you if it's covered or not but I would have thought that if it's an official Porsche warranty then everything should be covered however, there's a pretty good chance they won't do anything about the headlights unless they are really bad.

How long ago did you buy the car?

If recently they should show some goodwill as well as warranty coverage.

Agree, they are unlikely to do anything about the headlight condensation they wont even replace badly crazed lights.

Hi Matt,

The roof issue should be covered by the Porsche Extended Warranty but I’m not sure about the loose door trim, and the headlight condensation highly unlikely.

I’d agree with Dan’s comment about going directly to your Centre’s service department for advice, and you should look very carefully at the exclusions in the Extended Warranty document for items that aren’t covered. ☹️

Thanks all. Car was purchased from them in April last. Naturally the roof is the main issue I can always live with a loose door trim.

The warranty will cover the door trim unless you damaged it. I have had loose wiring in my Macan doors (a known issue) re-glued back.

You really have to have enough condensation in the head and tail lights so they can’t be used effectively before they will do anything about it.

Before you talk to the OPC service guys I strongly recommend you read your complete Extended Warranty contract. That will put you in the best position to understand whether the OPC is being more or less generous than you would expect contractually and sensibly discuss any negatives. You will probably start such discussions with more knowledge about it than the OPC.

Mine has just stopped working too, I'm guessing cold weather/condensation kills the micro switches and I'll be calling my local OPC tomorrow. I'll report back if I find out any relevant useful info :)

Thanks all.

Steve - hoping it trips a fuse rather than break electrics. Had a similar thing with windscreen washer on a car once - if you washed the screen rather than freeze the fluid on the screen or worse kill the electrics, it tripped the fuse. Annoying but a lot cheaper than the alternative.

Likewise I’ll report back too.

Just tried it again (because I'm sad!) and it now works. I think mine is the microswitch in the hook mechanism, having given the car a drive today its probably dried out and now works....thats my theory.

Just an update - and thanks for all your replies.

The switch for operating the roof was replaced under warranty and I’m now able to go topless again!
