Potential ÜnStock Event - ÜnStock: Modified Porsches. No Judgement

In November 2021, Porsche Club of America (PCA) held its first ÜnStock event in sunny California which proved successful and was followed by the 2022 event a few weeks ago. A video from the first event may be viewed below:

The Modified Register has run several events in the last few years with RPM Technik providing generous hosting support. Located near Tring, Hertfordshire, this is a convenient location for Southern based members. These events have been well received and whilst another is planned for 2023, clearly there is room for a second annual Register event in another part of the country, although perhaps not as sunny as California below.

An ÜnStock style event would provide an opportunity to introduce a different format. First, it would be good to hold it in the Midlands or further North. Secondly, we might perhaps have a select (curated) number cars with members available to represent their vehicles, plus member attendees bringing their own cars, preferably modified ones. We would also ideally want to have some independent trade stands.

If we are to start a new annual Club event, we need to get the basics right and build a memorable and sustainable event that each year can be refreshed as to content and location.

Indoors perhaps?

To make this a success and indeed to get it off the ground, we could do with some help. Des and I live in the South (Kent and Devon, respectively) and so scouting out possible venues and other local arrangements is not particularly easy from distance. Best venues are likely to be Porsche specialists, or popular car culture venues.

Curated cars, what does this mean? It is up for discussion but the main point is that they will be the draw as much as the event itself, and so they need to be "obviously” modified for performance or during restoration, without losing their Porscheness or indeed identity. We don’t want 15 perfect Singers, one would be good but otherwise a range of members’ cars.

Would this be a Club event? the answer is Yes and once we get to the point of having a viable outline and structure, the Club’s events team will be available to provide additional advice and assistance. It will take some effort to bring all the elements together and so if you’d like to help set up the first PCGB ÜnStock in 2023, please contact Des or Ralph at modified@porscheclubgb.com

It would be possible to have a modified section reserved at the Beaulieu Simply Porsche on the 4th June.

May be worth a chat with the owners of Elvington Airfield? They can even lay on a road course, drag strips for qtr mile, half mile and standing mile rather than just a static show. I was at Bicester Dec 22. Pretty boring tbh although more than a few nice 911s there.

I believe you'd be sold out. VMAX 200 organised by Autovivendi used to charge £350 per event for drag racing over 1.2 miles. Was always sold out. If you can get ATCO accreditation owners would be able to insure their cars too via decent insurers. Be nice to have something like VMAX200 exclusively for Porsche owners. Plenty of space for stands etc too.

Morning Ralph ,

The last couple of times I attended the RPM meetings ( both excellent ) , they were joint events with the 996 register. Do you propose a similar scenario here , or would we be going it alone?

Regards , Paul.

Paul,

The idea is that this is in addition to a "RPM" type event.

Frankly the likelihood of getting this off the ground up North seems low based on expressions of interest so far. Our fall-back plan is to seek space at the Porsche Festival in early September - not announced or confirmed by the Club but on Brands Hatch calendar...
