Evening Guys

I urgently need a front ABS sensor, Martin has kindly been helping me with some prices for new ones.

If anyone has a used one kicking about that would be great. Part numbers are 928 606 404 01, 928 606 404 02 and 0 265 001 119.

Cheers

Hi Tony

It was the wiring, not the sensor. A few years back I dropped the caliper and it broke the wires. Was able to re-attach the wires with some spade terminals and tape it up and it lasted a few years. it failed again and this time I had no option but to remove the sensor from the hub and the plan was to solder in some proper wires. It was a pig to remove! Once out, I paired back the wires at the sensor end to prep for solder, and the wire inside all came out along with the cut shielding, leaving absolutely nothing to solder to! So, a replacement was needed.

I thought a 2nd hand one would be just fine, as they don't usually fail. But must have phoned every contact and breaker known to man and came up blank. Simon from TIPEC said he had a few, but thought they were all rears, but would send them anyway. So, I ordered one from OPC, £153 inc vat, cheaper than anywhere else I must add. Arrived Wednesday, and the latest ones have a plastic shroud before the magnetic prong thingy, whereas the older ones are metal. Anyway, I could not get the new one in the hole (!), cleaned it up, filed it out a bit, greased it, it wouldn't go in more than a couple of mm. Decided mashing it with a hammer wasn't the answer! Anyway, at this point, the postie rocks up, with Simon's box. Tools down, opened box and was greeted with 4 x front sensors! Old, metal type. Picked the straightest one and it went in with minimal fuss and all is well again.

It probably would have fitted eventually with some fettling, either skimming off some plastic or enlarging the hub hole a tad (hub off for that), but to be honest, that shouldn't be needed. So, I've explained this to Porsche, and I have to wait till the parts manager is back on Monday to see if they will refund me or not! Maybe it has lay about for years and the plastic has swelled a bit, who knows.

All said and done at least it is now fixed and I have more spare sensors! Big shout out to Simon (sgl1966) yet again as he has bailed me out for the umpteenth time!

Further to this chat, here is a list of part numbers for this sensor:

Bosch - 0 265 001 119 (metal) - NLA
Bosch - 0 265 006 141 (plastic) - Current from OPC
928 606 404 01 (metal) - NLA
928 606 404 02 (plastic) - Current
Airtex - 5S10218 - plastic
Wells - SU11671 - plastic
BWD - ABS1514 - plastic
NGK - 72651 - metal - NLA
NGK - AB0020 - plastic
ABSB10382 - plastic
BSN 531973 - plastic

The BSN one is $568! OPC @ £170 inc vat (less any discount you can grab, I got 10% off) is the cheapest for a new one. It doesn't fit though (not in my hub anyway)! [&:]
