Macan S First Oil service @£495..!!

My wife's Macan S has flagged an oil service @ just over 14,000 miles - the service department explained that the oil service can be slightly earlier than the 2 year schedule, due to the oil sensors in the engine detecting that the oil requires changing, possibly due to shorter trips etc, almost like a variable service. Ok, I thought, that's fine, it shouldn't cost to much..! Oh but it does, for an oil and filter change at my local OPC is, £495 (incl vat) The oil alone (7 ltrs) cost £290.

I just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience..? I'm assuming, with current political turmoil the world seems to be in, the cost of oil is at an astronomical level, hence the cost..?

No par for the course I'm afraid.

Porsche used to advertise service costs under the banner 'Total Transparency' but for whatever reason they withdrew it a few years back.

I saw three variants.  One attached

Probably about right Ed. I think Porsche dealer labour charges are now approaching £200/hr. 😲 You could ask if they’ll allow you provide your own oil … if you can find a cheaper supply.

I assume your Macan is under the factory warranty so although you’re within your rights to have the service performed by a non-franchise garage I wouldn’t want the hassle of trying to sort out a subsequent warranty claim. Your choice of course.

And it's unreadable on this Forum!  £525 to £575 for a minor service, £1150 to £1250 for a major, excluding gearbox service, expect it to be about £1500

Yes, my thoughts entirely Jeff - I know a very good indie, but I just know I would have to jump through hoops if there was any subsequent issues within the warranty period.

Hi Richard,

I would think that's down to proverbial arse covering.! Call my cynical, but I do think the government and major fuel companies are, A) profiteering from the soaring fuel prices, and B) as a by-product of that, the government are trying to get people out of ICE cars.?

That price for oil has to be incorrect at > £40 per litre ... have you queried it ?

Labour up here is £160 + VAT per hour

RPM Technik are Porsche approved service providers, JZM also pp a recent post on the Forum

Most if not all OPC’s are an absolute rip off! They charge what they do because customers seem to pay it. As previously mentioned in a post, the available price for 5litres Mobil 1 0-40W is £39.99 from Arnold Clark .

Ok, in the interest of consistency and as a comparison from an OPC on pricing - I've now contacted another well known local OPC..To my amazement, they were even more expensive - £573 (incl VAT) for 3 hrs work, oil and filter change..

As long as everybody is so reluctant to name and shame (as if they had any) the OPCs extorting these extorting amounts they really don't have much incentive to compete, do they?
Sheffield OPC charged me £376.97 in June this year and £413.17 in February '21 for oil change.

2020 Macan S, Volcano Grey. First Porsche and source of constant delight but PP37WLA6 ordered 11.1.22

As previously mentioned, Porsche are an absolute rip off!!! It certainly doesn’t take 3 hours to change an oil and filter.
I have to continually ask myself why people put up with it? Maybe it’s a touch of the emperor’s clothes 🤔🤣

Just a quick update in ref to my recent oil service.

The OPC in question allowed me to supply my own oil, as they were charging £290 for 7.5 ltrs of oil!! I supplied mobil 1 ow-20, which was mail order, so postage included for £82.00 (that was for 8 ltrs).! How can they morally charge over £200 more, and don't forgot, they're are trade buyers for oil and a significant quantity at that, so they're no doubt making a lot more.?

However, there seemed to be a break down in comms, as when I arrived at the OPC to have the car serviced, I dealt with another service advisor, which they advised, "you cant supply your own oil, as it could be contaminated"! Long story short, due to their breakdown in coms, they honoured it, but advised that next time you have to use Porsche supplied oil.! I was staggered by this, the oil is sealed and in the box it arrived in!! Why on earth would I contaminate my own oil..

Its beyond belief, and I really don't know how that are legally or morally getting away with it.

My local PC used to (over 4 years ago) accept self supplied oil provided it was in sealed original containers.

Which you can completely understand..However, it seems, not anymore..certainly with my experience with this OPC. I wonder if that's mandatory across all OPC's?

You can used “porsche approved“ independent garages for servicing. Or repairs. They are usually a bit cheaper.   But for me they are quite often a long drive away.

Correct Helen, you can, and quite within your rights..However, were anything to arise under the warranty  period, relating to an oil or engine issue, there is the potential it could void the warranty. It certainly wouldn’t be cut and dry..and no doubt have to jump through hoops to prove otherwise..!

If the correct oil and genuine filter changed on anything as simple as an oil change don't see why there should be an issue on a warranty.
Maybe just PCs way of getting our services done there at outrageous prices.
Food for thought as my Macan will need a oil service this year.
