My 2023 Cayman GTS

Firstly "Hello" to one and all, my first post here.
Deposit paid a couple of months ago with the prospect of a 2 year wait, but a call last week to say I have an allocation for a December build slot. Off to the dealer to finalise my spec this week, biased towards function rather than going large on the interior trim options!

GTS PDK in GT Silver,
satin Platinum wheels,
PSP
LED PDLS+
standard Cruise Control
Rear Camera
Electrically Folding mirrors
Dual Zone Climate
Homelink (saves having 3 remotes in the car!)
Standard interior except Silver seatbelts
Smoking Package
Light Design Package
Bose

Fairly happy with that, I'll probably add the front & rear boot liners and rear luggage net as this car will be mainly for roadtrips and they do catch most of the inevitable dirt.
All that remains is to be patient and look forward to the New Year.

Nice spec Nick, but not tempted to include some leather? At least you wouldn’t have to look at the rather cheapskate (for a £70k+ car) plastic dashboard … and you’ve got another 6-months to save up for it! [;)]

I assume you realise that dipping the rear view mirror is a manual operation unless you choose the auto dimming mirrors with rain sensor option?

Jeff

Lucky you getting a build slot already, which OPC are you using?

i ‘ordered’ mine in December and am still awaiting a build date… 🙄🤔🤷‍♂️

Many thanks for the warm welcome.

The GTS interior pack isn't for me as I don't like the coloured tacho, and so far I've not really got my head around some of the other options and even a couple of the OPC advisors weren't clear on various items when I started looking at the end of last year. I'm having another visit this week so will have a final look.

So not entirely ruled out, but I do actually like the standard spec! Not the only Porsche in the family (992 carrera which has leather) which is nice but not at the top of my list, the money would fund a nice wine run down to Spain and back.

I've avoided the auto dimming and rain sensor deliberately. Having had them on a variety of cars and never liked the slightly dimmer view in the mirrors or rain sensing function and have had issues when the time comes to change the windscreen and sensors need recalibrating. I tend to put ceramic coatings on the glass which obviates the need for wipers at moderate speed and work best without intermittent wiper activation.

All good points so thanks for the pointers, in the category of deliberate choices rather than omissions.

Windy Miller: From conversations with a couple of OPCs I got the impression that Porsche were releasing GTS Cayman allocations again after the recent issues, so it may just be around the corner, unless the spec has some items which are still on hold? Not sure on the forum etiquette for naming dealers/centres, doubtless someone will put me straight but I'll just hold fire before prompting an early trip to the naughty step.

I'm still undecided on whether to removal all the model designations. There's a bit too much script on the rear for me, but I may do that myself and just refit either the 718 or GTS badging, the door decal is also a possible delete item. Both straightforward enough to do.

Understood Nick. You could just go for the leather option rather than the GTS interior pack, which leaves the standard black tacho. The two tone red/black leather combination would go well with GT Silver and would make a change from boring black.

On the other hand the Spanish wine run sounds very tempting! [;)]

I have the standard interior Race-Tex with extended items in leather. Gives a nice up market feel to the cabin and is great for £1200. Much more easy to swallow that the £3000 for the GTS interior which should really come as standard as it's a GTS!!

Dan

Jeff & Dan many thanks.

That is indeed the way I'm leaning at the moment (Race-Tex with extended items in leather) as a sensible compromise, although I'd take some convincing on red leather.

I had an Audi S3 some years ago with leather and contrasting alcantara seat centre squabs/cushions which worked quite well but I did tire of it after a while. I'm planning on the GTS being a keeper, like many, this is probably the last combustion engine only car I'll buy so have that partially in mind.

Off to the OPC tomorrow so it'll be much easier to visualise with a 718 actually infront of me.

Nick

I went for the standard interior with extended leather too. Then added the black brushed aluminium trim, which has a nice sheen to it and reminds me of the standard GTS interior on older Carreras. So silver/black on the exterior and black/silver inside.

That's actually a really good way to skin it, probably the best value for money, although I couldn't resist and when for the list below which is to be honest probably over the top!

GTS interior package Carmine Red

GTS interior package

Dashboard trim package leather/Race-Tex

Steering column casing in leather

Storage compartment lid in Race-Tex with Porsche Crest

Sun visors Race-Tex

One thing to note is that the GTS interior gets you all the nice carbon fibre bits if that is your thing.

A visit to Solihull and the spec is finalised and paperwork all done.

Minor changes to my opening spec above/omissions added and also Race-tex interior with extended items in Leather.

Stuck with the black leather as this is essentially a two-tone car (silver/black) with the standard silver trim items and silver belts breaking up the sea of black a bit.

GTS PDK in GT Silver, satin Platinum wheels,

Race-tex interior with extended items in Leather

Multifunction GT Steering wheel PSP LED PDLS+ Rear Camera Electrically Folding mirrors Dual Zone Climate Homelink (saves having 3 remotes in the car!) Silver seatbelts Smoking Package

Passenger luggage net Light Design Package Bose...

Just "718" on the rear

Dealer items (front & rear storage liners)

"Regular" Cruise Control is now standard fit so removed from the list.

Many thanks for everyone's contributions. Much appreciated.

Nick

A fantastic spec, the one option I missed as I thought it came with the car was the tyre inflator, not sure if that is standard now? Extended leather has to be on there for the leather dash and door tops etc. I'm not keen on auto dimming so lost that as well, multi function heated wheel was superb in the winter, going to miss that on the GT4 :(

Hi Jase,

I believe the inflator and "goo" is currently included for MY2023. Obviously the last resort and I tend to carry a decent inflator and a Tyre Doctor style (rubberised rope and insertion tool) kit with me on longer roadtrips. The goo only works on very small punctures IME and you can never have enough pumps!

I considered adding the Fire Extinguisher, but I've had a car fire and those tiny extinguishers are not much use.

Side Decal delete? Possibly. A straightforward DIY job if I decide I don't want it.

Obviously I've studied the Configurator excessively of late, like all prospective buyers, and don't think I've missed anything that will irritate me later on. Plenty of functional items, a deliberately lower key/traditional look and as was pointed out above by the learned members, that should be enough leather to keep the cabin feeling smart.

I'm a great fan of multifunction steering wheels. The ability to control all the systems whilst keeping your eyes on the road is a strong positive for me as are physical buttons. Some look at the 718 cabin as dated, but from a functional perspective it beats haptics and menus everytime.

A genuinely reliable and intuitative voice control system will probably arrive with the first mass produced flying cars which we've been promised for decades.

Yes Nick, I think the tyre repair and inflation kit was included along with cruise control in the latest round of price increases, although the former’s previous deletion on the 718 seemed to be a bit skinflint to me.

Looks as though you’re good to go, but it looks as though you’re in for a long wait unfortunately. Well done including some decent lights, a proper a/c system and getting a lid on the unsightly hole in the centre console, even if you’re a non-smoker. [;)]

Hope the process goes smoothly for you. Keep us posted on progress.

Sounds good, I could never like the font they chose for the side decals so went for a delete, a shame they have'nt made the dual heating standard with the present price increases. Biggest decision for me was whether to go with -10 or -20mm, opted for the -10mm in the end but that was only to do with driveways etc. Exciting times, enjoy the whole process and ultimately enjoy the car at the end of it. No decision is wrong, it's your car.

Very much the approach I've taken. The whole process has been enjoyable and it's not too long to wait.

I've recently moved house so am not short of jobs to fill the time with including getting my garage ready with some paint on the walls and a decent floor.

Also the PEC day to do. Fun indeed.
