Porsche day Prescott 18th June

Anyone going to the Porsche day at Prescott hill climb on 18th June. please note that it is a one day event not 2 days as shown on the Prescott website
i expect to be there but apologise for not being in the 944 as its in the paint shop. i'll need to air the Cayman. did ask about organising a dedicated 944 parking area but nothing happened..
for those not familiar with Prescott its about 6 miles off Junction 9 on the M5. weather looks hot!

Yup. I'm planning to go, just got the car back with its new clutch. Re 944s, I'm sure I read somewhere that Mike Pollock may be there?
Entry list shows two 944s and the 3 litre 924.

Sorry...we missed you. My fault, we sat up by Pardon and got cold and wet, so brain fade (first sign of hypothermia) and then took shelter in the car for an early lunch. An excellent event, I love it there even in the rain! And the blast across the Cotswolds from Oxfordshire is usually the best bit of the day anyway...a few cars about but all keeping up a good pace...

I'm annoyed that I tried to arrange dedicated parking area for 944's. Unfortunately I tried to do it through the club channels .... and my request just fell into a black hole.. the 924 Owners Club managed a parking area of their own with about 15-20 cars including some 944's

As a matter of interest there was a meeting on Sunday for other clubs. i think there were a section of modern classics, a section for the TVR club.... all well attended but poorly advertised

There does not appear to be another thread running regarding this meeting, so perhaps someone here can answer this. I didn't make it despite having tickets, but I gather that there was no marquee or delegated PCGB parking area. Is that correct?

Yes, another time!
No marquee but I think PCGB are scaling back on that (a real shame) in spite of the increased membership fee! Little prospect of it at Silverstone Classic I believe. I will reconsider my membership at next renewal...

Prescott tends to be a smaller event (part of its charm) but some years back the local OPC had a display. I was asked if I wanted to park with the Porsches, so happy with that....not on the wet grass of the Orchard!! Always lots of people looking at the 944s...now a rarely seen Porsche, and for lots there is a nostalgia for their first Porsche. Several instructors at Prescott are previous owners...I spotted one in the queue for bacon rolls (best ever?). I think that was him getting all the lines right in a Type 35 Bugatti later on!!

If I say too much i'll tramp heavily on someone's toes.
Anybody can organise a dedicated parking area. You have to commit to so many cars and somebody has to pay in advance, and you get a nominal discount. Maybe the PCGB dont want to risk the odd 10 pound note!. Not sure if other venues have the same arrangements. As far as I am concerned it didn't matter if the Club appeared or not. Dedicated parking allows like minded people to meet up, otherwise its easy not to know people or miss them timewise.
Please dont start me on the parking. I'm a Bugatti owners club member. About 2 weeks ago i took my Cayman and found myself directed into the field on the opposite side of the road. The grass was knee deep and at one point I feel over. The grass was caught up in the front splitters. Believe me the Orchard is good!

I have organised a number of club parking areas at Prescott and always found the BOC to be very cooperative. As we have a paid events organiser surely it is in their remit to arrange this, especially as the event was being promoted by the Club and this had been done previously?

I have only ever parked ‘over the road’ once – never again!

Hi MJB wholly agree with all of that. I did think of doing it myself , as in the Titanic days. there was never any club involved in that and we organised rolling road days, Xmas dinners, a 'Polish off in Andover'.... all well attended.

As far as parking opposite you dont really get a choice.... and I'm a BOC member. i've also been in the field on the Gotherington side of Pardon bend.... its even worse. Best option for me is to take her indoors along and use her Disabled sticker and park right next to the start line.

There was racing both days at Prescott

Including Porsche Hillclimb and Speed Championship on Saturday and Porsche Invite Classes on Sunday

The Porsche parking looked splendid on Saturday!

Ah yes, I’d forgotten about that sloping field on the outside of Pardon!

My surprise at the lack of a PCGB presence at this event was in part prompted by the Club having organised a parking area and a couple of gazebos at Simply Porsche recently.

Disappointing that PCGB didn't have a presence, I agree. A pity especially as there was a superb showing of 924s, including the Carrera GTs. We should remember that it was the transaxle cars of the 70s/80s that saved the brand when the 911 was essentially a hand built car and most went straight off the line into rectification thus killing profitability...
Can't escape the conclusion that the Club has lost interest in the grass roots events, preferring tyre kicking for owners of newer stuff.

As ever it's best to arrive early if you can, although plenty of Porsches were seen entering the Orchard throughout the morning. I guess the allotted parking filled up early on?
Having once suffered the bumpy field behind Orchard/Pardon we declined a few years ago, claiming low ground clearance, and were directed to that field opposite the entrance. Better but even so it's not ideal.
Like you we're now BOC members.

Graham, the 'superb showing of 924's' was down to the 924 Owners club which is nothing to do with PCGB. They also attended in force an earlier meeting this year at Prescott. I'm not aware of any 'allotted' parking for other Porsche groups. There was a line up against the hedge in the field opposite of about 15 cars. I think mostly Caymans.

Eddie - I've often wondered this myself, I don't think many members use the forums (or perhaps know they exist). There was a questionnaire last week which I received by email about forum usage so maybe they are going to do something about it.
