£10 a gallon upcoming!

Visited my local Esso filling station yesterday and was shocked to find Supreme now priced at £2.018 per litre - that's £9.14p per gallon.

I was so stunned, I replace the nozzle and went into the booth to check the price at the pay desk. Of course, it was confirmed correct by an apologetic cashier.

Breaching £2 a litre somehow stuck in my craw - I was damned if I was going to pay that for fuel - it'll be £10 a gallon before we know it!  I returned home disgruntled and to check elsewhere. Our next nearest forecourt was out of stock altogether, but another - a bit further away- was selling at £1.867.

So buying 65 litres at £121 I managed to save around 10 quid - probably uneconomic in pure value terms when taking account of my time and the extra travelling - but somehow I felt victorious on principle!   'Corse there's no knowing what I'll do come next fill up.

We're all going to hell in a handcart by the look of it!

Regards,

Second post in two days I've seen on this subject.  Yes it is distressing.

You must live in a very expensive part of the country.  Costco is 160.9p for Unleaded and 167.9 for Super Unleaded today.  Tesco with 99RON only a penny more.

My solution; I have a Panda that is brilliant fun to drive, cost less than the price of a Macan headlight, £30 a year road tax and easily manages 50mpg.  With twisted logic it's £5 a gallon.

Prices will come back down.

Wow paid £1.959 for Esso premium yesterday, thought that was outrageous. Going to Le Mans next week hope fuel prices are cheaper there.
Fuel distributors are taking the p*** if you compare pump prices with historic spot prices.

The only winners at the moment are the Exchequer … excise duty, with VAT on top of that, plus the windfall tax on oil company profits (or whatever Rishi wants to call it!) means they’re coining it.

In keeping fuel prices high you have to wonder if there’s an underlying Government agenda to force us out of our ICE cars and into BEVs.

Whatever the reason, when ICE cars become a significantly smaller section of the vehicle parc I am sure that we shall look back fondly on prices such as these. Porsche is at present involved in setting up a plant to produce synthetic 'eFuel' on a large scale which will be a non-oil-based alternative, but I doubt that this will be cheaper than conventional fuel for various reasons.

On the same tack, I have today purchased some engine oil (not for a Porsche) that previously retailed at £12.26/L+VAT. The price now: £23.91/L+VAT!

Not necessarily. There is another Esso garage on the way home from work that I can use which is cheaper but not as close. I can always go back to using Momentum. I went to using Esso because of the WEX card. With the price increase in Supreme+ that now negates the saving.

It's a shame that there is no reliable way to ascertain prices for Super unleaded other than visiting the stations even though WEX must have the ESSO info.  I've tried various online options over the last few years without success for Super although Petrolprices.com was OK for cooking grade.

Just back from a week down south went into the local Tesco in Newbury  and went to fill up with the regular petrol and noticed it was 1.75.9  topped up the tank £50  .I questioned the price as a week before I put in momentem 99 oct  for the same price back home in Glasgow  ,the guy said this is the second rise in petrol this last week.

I used to use Petrolprices.com but they changed from buying the data in to expecting users to enter the data. This meant that less stations were covered or up to date. In addition, some users apparently do not understand the difference between standard fuels and the super unleaded and many garages have the same price for both added making the app/service now in my opinion unusable for super unleaded fuel price comparison.

However, In general I do find the prices shown on petrol widget on the Porsche connect service in my Macan reasonable reliable and have so far found nothing better. About to put this to the test next week with a first trip to East Anglia since my PCGB Esso card arrived

Hi All

I am low mileage user so not taking to much of hit at present.

Of course price varies depending on date of delivery.  One garage can be running on delivery of fuel that they bought at the lower price while another can just have taken delivery and paid the new price hence the variation.

Its difficult to know.

Or is it all a ploy to drive us to electric?  There is a thought.

Even Tesco is now got out of hand today unleaded in the Fiat £1.80.9 litre Super 189.9 litre every week it's going up in leaps and bounds.
Not sure the Esso card with 6 pence off for synergy works out any cheaper with Esso charging more to begin with apart from maybe better fuel, card has lost its attraction.
Just back from France on Monday super 221.9 Euro
Oh happy days
Why go electric with electricity bills going the same way.

Not in my recent experience, visiting the same Shell garage on consecutive days the price had increased 5p per litre with no delivery in between !

Cashier had limited info, no manager on duty to chase ... Shell on-line feedback unsurprisingly non committal - crap !

Electric ? ... yet again, another seriously flawed political driver !

205.9p at Silverstone Circuit pumps yesterday seems a bargain although breaching the £99 limit at local Tesco in the evening was a bit of a shock - must fill up when it gets down to half-full.

From PH current pump prices in France - 98 is £1.89 & 95 £1.84. Diesel cheaper at £1.69 unlike UK
