This is rather a problem of our current times. My wife runs a Maccan turbo and I will be the first to say she and me are certainly not precious about the old truck in fact it's generally pretty grubby most of the time. However, I recently noticed that the steering wheel had turned a grim shade of off-white around the rim. Thinking about this we came to the conclusion that following my wife's visits to shops and stores, frequently, what always follows was a quick wipe with some cleansing gel to counteract the dreaded lurgy still going round. Of course a constituent of most gels is alcohol which has effectively wiped all the black colour from the steering wheel. I don't fancy having to shell out for a new steering wheel which with all the gizmos on it is bound to be not cheap so what is the best way to get the wheel back to it's original shade. I'm thinking a good rub with some black Kiwi, that's boot polish for all our younger listeners, or can anybody recommend anything which may be more suitable.
] As you say, it's probably the alcohol rubs that have taken the colour out.
