How do I Test the fuel pressure damper

Bremar

Hi all
1986 normally aspirated 944. Going through one of those starts then stops phase. I’ve changed due relay etc. just looking at the fuel pressure damper on front of fuel rail. If I remove the vacuumed hose and suck on it, it responds but slowly the vacuum I’ve created releases. should it hold that vacuum until I release it??
thanks in advance.
bremar.

I would think it should hold vacuum as the diaphragm should be sealed, however I think if the diaphragm is leaking you can get fuel into the vacuum line,

Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated. it is so helpful to get a reply. It confirms my suspicion so I will get a replacement.

I removed my damper many moons ago, can't recall the exact reason now, perbaps a mod suggestion from my son. Anyway, the reason for my post is to say it had no ill effect on my modified turbo. Must be 10 years now since it was removed?

Was that at the same time as fitting the bucket sized injectors, I still have that gaiter locking ring for you

good question, I can't recall... good shout on the gaiter ring, mine failed again although not on the repair that my son did, this time it's on the side, clearly the plastic is too brittle to bother trying again. I have a door rain strip for you... can't find the other but do at least I have one to pass on.

Hopefully we can have a coffee morning soon at south mimms, be lovely to see everyone after a very long time
