OPC Unable to Identify Vehicle VIN

A quick question.
Son has just bought a 2001 986 2.7 Boxster. It’s long overdue a service so he contacted a local OPC to ask for a quote for the work. The VIN was requested and OPC said they would revert with an estimate. When they did respond OPC were unable to provide an estimate as they could not identify the car from the VIN. Despite confirming the VIN OPC still unable to ID car.
Does anyone know why this might be the case? As part of the pre-purchase due diligence VIN was checked so we know it‘s genuine.

Thanks

Paul

Graeme, thanks for the response.

It looks like a couple of letters/numbers have been mistyped on the V5c versus the stamped VIN, well we‘re hoping it’s an error rather than something more sinister!!!!

It happens I also had a brand new car from an OPC with the V5 having the wrong number and colour ! on it, DVLA where pretty helpful getting it fixed

Fingers crossed you get it sorted

best G

If you need to amend a VIN on a V5, it may need to be inspected by the DVLA. It could just be a case of making an appointment at your nearest DVLA centre and they sort the rest but not 100%.

Best to get it done sooner rather than later as if you come to sell it the new owner may pull out based on the difference.

Thanks for the advice. All appears to be well. The VIN on the V5 was incorrect, a couple typos changing a Z to a 2 and S to a 5. All corrected by the DVLA without an inspection.
