1986 911 Carrera cabtriolet

I have just fitted a new roof on the car but the roof controller part 911 618 313 00 has failed and I need to replace it. However this part is no longer available, so I just wondered if there is another one that will work. I was told that a 993 unit (993 618 313 00) with a new wiring loom might work....but has anyone done this please. Many thanks

just a quick note. Have 87 cab with electric roof. Owned since 93. Had roof probs few years ago Did some research unit thought mine failed. Turned out to be dodgy fuse and earthing issues but did find somewhere abroad that checks your unit and offers refurb at cost. Have not got website Try search with part number on internet. Csrnt help more just back hosp after bad fall me and car of road till Jan. cheers fellow 3.2 fan we have seen the light. Ps check your. Fuel tank that bit corrosion can be nightmare.
