Can I use 21 inch winter tyres on a Macan Turbo?

Hi All,

New here. I have been seconded to Norway for work for 12 months. I brought my Macan Turbo with me but have been caught out by the fact that you need winter tyres here by 18th of November by law.

Thinking to myself, well that's not an issue i'll just get Porsche in Oslo to sort that for me; was subsequently shocked to have them say they do not allow 21 inch winter tyres so I need to buy a winter wheel and tyre set for what works out to be £8,000.

I garage near me has said they can provide tires for the following spec:

Vredestein Wintrac Pro
Vinterdekk
265/40R21 105Y
295/35R21 107Y

I doubt these will be 'N' rated by Porsche.

Any advice would be great :)

Porsche list 2 alternatives for your model:-

20" RS Spyder winter wheel and tyre set in satin black - Part No 95B 044 641 J
Front axle: 9 J x 20 RO 26 with 265/45 R 20 104V M20"+S tyres
Rear axle: 10 J x 20 RO 19 with 295/40 R 20 106V M+S tyres
Price in sterling £3,983.33 + vat fitted.

20" RS Spyder winter wheel and tyre set in silver - Part No 95B 044 641 H
Front axle: 9 J x 20 RO 26 with 265/45 R 20 104V M+S tires
Rear axle: 10 J x 20 RO 19 with 295/40 R 20 106V M+S tyres
Price in sterling £3,188.33 + vat fitted.

At the price you've been quoted, it would pay you to order in UK, come home to have them fitted and reclaim the VAT when you return to Norway.

would personally like a bit more rubber on winter tyres - 20's or 19's rather than 21's - and rubber cheaper that way too

Thanks guys.. appreciated. I've been offered a fitting of aftermarket rims (Nitro Turismo 20 inch) and Michelin Pilot Alpine tyres, N rated. £3700 inc VAT.

Argh decisions. Snow will come by Dec and stay will well into April.

The Lysebotn–Rystad road in the south-west is one of the top 10 driving roads in the world. When we were there a while back, I recall there were 10-foot high snowdrifts lining the roads - and that was in June! [:D]

Yes it is pretty Awesome! I drove a Mclaren 650s (a life before children) from UK to The Lofoten Islands in May 2018. We got passed the 66th parallel and the snow was still there, still had 400 miles to go up :) I haven't driven that road you mentioned (I don't think?) but did manage the Atlantic Road which is pretty nuts. Also drive through a 26km tunnel which was .. Boring LOL.

Sorry, off topic, but the trip Clive refers to included a drive through that same 26km tunnel, lifted by the blue and red lit parking zones.
June 2014 - as shown in PP October that year.
It was awesome, credit to the late Gary Wiln for leading that trip in his Macca!

I've looked that road up now. We did do it. was amazing. The tunnel was boring for the sheer length of it, plus i was stuck behind loads of traffic so couldn't boot it LOL.

Loved the blue zones though and Gunvagen (after you come out of the tunnel towards the west) is stunning
