Best routes around Essex

Hi All

I am a newbie to the club and also to Porsche. I have just bought my first 911 (hopefully of many), a 997 S Gen1, and want to make the most of it by finding some fun and challenging routes around Essex, particularly around Chelmsford, where I can see what the car is capable of. I am not a speed freak, but really want to see how well the car handles round bends etc..

Can anyone recommend any good 1-3 hour routes i could pop out and enjoy early mornings before the wife and kids are up.

Regards

Sanjay

Hi Sanjay,

I'd recommend Club Track Days or other Track Days to get fully comfortable with the limits of the car and drive it hard. Best fun, well worth it. The local roads have uneven surfaces, lids and lines and autumn winter roads can be slippery. There are a lot of cameras now as well. The first time I drove a 911 in the autumn it did a neat 270 degree spin pulling out onto a country A road..... the first time I drove it on an icy road the front locked up and we slid down hill with no real steering for 50m. Got lucky both times :)

Happy motoring

Thanks for the prompt reply Jerry

Agree, not the best time of year to start practicing on open roads with the cold and rain due, and your advice about track days sound really appealing, but i am hoping to do some of them next year after building up the bank account again from the big expenditure of the car :) Any advice on good ones to try out in the area would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Sanjay
