To flare or not to flare???

Hello,

I am looking for a bit of an opinion and advice; might be a dangerous thing to do on a forum? Here goes ... my '71T (hot rod) seems to be nearing completion. The car is located in LA at a very reputable shop / builder. The motor is a 964 based 3.8 w ITBs running Motec; a bit of a monster. I fear my narrow body, currently running 7R wheels and sticky Avons will not cope. I could have the shop in LA weld on set of ST flares. I like the look, but of course I can't exactly visit while this work is ongoing. I am thinking it is best to leave the car narrow and ship her home to Scotland. Then, when the time comes have the flares added here in the UK. I know there are reputable shops here that could do this; does anyone have an idea of the cost? .... I know that is pretty open ended! If someone has had this done; any advice would be greatly appreciated. BTW; I would only consider steel flares as an option.

Thanks Chris

Last year I finished an ST build which had steel flared arches on the rear. These were hand made by Chesterton Coach Works. Give John at Chesterton a call and he will give you a price for making them and fitting if required. You can get a 9" x 15" rim under them.

I put removable RS rear arches on my tarmac rally car since they are easily damaged. 1973 911E with S spec engine.
Great to be able to use the Fuch 8 inch wheels

RS steel arches are expensive. Putting them on, prep and painting makes it not cheap.

That is an interesting solution. A new one on me! The car looks great. Running an 8" wheel is a bonus. I take it fitment of the 7s on front are no issue? I run 7Rs on all four corners.

Yes, go for the flares
They’re very 70s anyway, used to love mine (heh, heh) [;)][8D]
