993 Rear Shocks Replacement Advice

Hi All,
My standard 1996 C2 needs new rear shocks. My local OPC are telling me Porsche can't supply rear shocks on their own anymore - they will only supply a complete kit for front and rears. Given they supplied me with new front shocks only a couple of years ago, this is disappointing! Anyway, I need new rear shocks and was wondering if anyone can advise what would be good 3rd party replacements to match the original shocks, and to complement the standard front shocks.
Thanks in advance,
Andy

I was told this was OPC policy a year or two ago by my indie.

As you would expect, the kit is not cheap.

Could always enquire with one of the recognised specialists - Hartech, JZ - for guidance.

I'd put in a call to Centre-Gravity in Tamworth - they will be able to suggest how best to replace rears while keeping your existing fronts. (And be able to do they work if you want them to - really helpful guys - I used them and it was well worth the drive down from Scotland)

Hi Andy

If your rears are done, the fronts are probably pretty close ! Replacing a pair is definitely adverse for the handling, especially on rougher surfaces.

I would advise a set of Bilsteins, B6s if you run standard ride height, B8s if you run M030 or M033 springs. These are as supplied by Porsche Classic for rather more ..

See here for examples, but be aware of exchange rates and VAT! No affiliation other than as satisfied customer .. [8|]

There are, of course, loads of different options, but IMHO a properly set up M033 / B8 is great all round.

cheers, Maurice

Standard suspension rear shocks are available individually, there is a technical bulletin which says if you have a turbo or M030 car it’s a set of 4 (with springs and some other parts). If it’s a standard suspension car it's 2 Front or Rear.
