Centre Lock Torque Wrench

Those with Centre Lock wheels will be aware you need to tighten the Centre Lock bolts to a torque of 600 nm and torque wrenches capable of this kind of grunt are few, far between - and expensive!

However, Auto 4 in Solihull currently have a special offer on Norbar Torque Wrenches this week and can supply a 300 - 1,000 nm unit for £280. The unit comes with a calibration certificate (+/- 4%), a handy folding storage case and free shipping.

If you fancy one you can contact Paris Dineen 01235 776636. The offer is open until 5pm this Friday 17th September.

BTW - It's ¾" drive, so it will fit directly into your Porsche supplied socket. You also get a 1" adapter as part of the offer and this would allow for some really serious torqueing! :ROFLMAO:

Clive

Ordered 12.30pm yesterday - arrived in good order 11.30 today.

Certainly can't complain at the shipping lead time! [:)]

Thanks Clive, very interesting. I seem to recall from previous posts that you used a torque multiplier on your centre lock wheels. If so, have you decided that it did not perform very well and that a full on torque wrench is a better option? I ask because I am considering purchasing a torque multiplier, partly because of its more compact size and could be carried in the front boot.

I use a torque multiplier (snap on) and it works fine with a standard 1/2" torque wrench. As all garages have one of those I just carry the multiplier and the socket of course.

Hi Terry,

The multiplier is fine. I have used mine for more than 10 years without a problem.

The advantage of the wrench is it works directly on the bolt without an intervening tool and is therefore a little more convenient with a reduced chance of slipping when forces are applied.

However, the wrench is a fairly sturdy piece of kit and probably best stored in the garage rather than carried around in the car.

Clive
