Cayenne purchase tips?

Inspired by MarkGolfs Cayenne diary I am looking at Cayennes

Budget £30k. The car will be used (a) to carry my bike(s) and kit to events (b) normal domestic use excluding commuting. Fuel consumption is not an issue. It will replace an old Chrysler Voyager, a great load carrier but horrible to drive.

If there’s anything not obvious, or options or features anyone loves/hates, I’d like to hear it.
Turbo or not?

It will be a two-driver car. I understand that the ‘comfort package’ is electric memory driver’s seat, wing mirrors and steering wheel, working from the key on opening the car; is this correct?

Sometimes I see 3 memory positions, sometimes two; and the switchgear has some differences I can’t find out about. Anyone help with the differences?

Hope I can help you here. My Cayenne is a 63 plate S Diesel with 14 position front seats which have three memory positions each via buttons on the door. It has an insurance valuation from PCGB of £30k so may be near the kind of model you would be looking at. My occasional other driver and I use memory buttons 1 & 2 respectively.

The driver‘s seat goes back and the steering wheel goes up when the engine is turned off. If it is the same driver again then the seat goes to its former driving position when the engine is started, if it is the other driver then they just push their button on the door to get the other memory position. We both use the one car key so this may be why it does not recognise who is driving but I haven’t notice any change when we occasionally use the spare key.

You say fuel economy not an issue so this may not be the right Cayenne model for you - its major advantage over other models with similar performance is the fuel economy. But if it might be of interest I will be advertising it for sale through PCGB at the end of September.

This causes a bit of complication unless you transport the bike in the back. I don't really like the idea of that as it will inevitably damage the interior and I also want to be able to take a bike when I have family in the car.

Roof mounted is high to reach and wastes more fuel. AFAIK the roof-rails *cannot* be retro-fitted and quite often cars have been spec'd without. You can't use the cheap tailgate carriers because of the spoiler. That leaves the towbar. These aren't commonly spec'd either. A manual towbar can be retro-fitted for around £1k or £2k for the automatic one. You need to have the electrics and coding done properly otherwise park assist, reverse cam, LCA etc won't work properly. Towbar bike carriers are expensive too, around £500. Further, the exhausts blast out onto the bike wheels which I understand can blow the tyres out. Porsche made a "heat shield" to protect the bike wheels which is basically just a piece of plastic. Part number 955 044 000 85 / 955 044 000 86. Can be ordered from OPC for £20 each

Nonetheless, I'm just about to have a towbar fitted for bikes...
