993 engine bay - worn cooling ducting

Hi there, my car is booked in to have this part replaced in late August and wondering if safe (or NOT) to tape this (gaffa tape / gorilla tape) up as a temporary fix - particularly for 100 mile round trip to FOTU next weekend.

Tape will be fine but why not just change it? Just slacken off the 3 bolts a few turns and pop a new one in!

I drove mine for about a year with gorilla tape sealing the hole (because at time I had no nearby good person to fix it). I was surprised it stayed on, but it did. Give the shroud a good clean (eg with isopropyl) and cover rather more than the original split with gorilla tape (my split grew).

My biggest problem was that I clumsily managed to drop part of the perished shroud down the hole and had to buy a long grabber device to extract it out because I was concerned it would get hot/melt/ignite.

My split was in exact same place as yours. I wonder what causes this.

If I'd known it was that easy! (from above it looks like it needs quite a bit removing to get at it)

Yes, easy enough to replace... make sure you get the bit to the left relocated properly too. Mine holed in exactly the same place - seems like a weak spot on the rubber/whatever it’s made of[:)]

Quick Update.

Mark, thanks for confirming a quick fix with tape worked for you - I applied Gorilla Tape (Crystal Clear) and it held for the 100 mile round trip to FOTU at Grimsthorpe Castle on the weekend.

T911UK, thanks for suggesting it's an easy fix - I've looked at your website and found the part - however it's booked in for that part and some other jobs in a few weeks time. Glad I found your website - will refer there for future parts needs.

I just had my rubber duct replaced also which had split all of a sudden, seems like a common failure. Mine was taped up so I could drive to the Silverstone Classic, held up fine for 130 miles.
