911 Turbo S returned & full money back plus Taycan probs

Hi,

An update on previous posts...

Bought a new 911 Turbo S & Taycan Turbo S in Jan this year. Gentian blue 911. Neptune blue Taycan. Looked good.

Cut a long story short... The 911 has been returned & they’ve given me my money back. Faulty car & I wasn’t prepared for them to fix it. New 2022 model on order for delivery sometime this year.

On the Taycan front, various software issue make ownership interesting such as rear cross traffic detect faulty, park assist faulty, deletion of radio stations from my favourites list & other more difficult to describe things. Dash board and door rattles and creaks give it an unwanted character and now just recently after having collected it from the dealer after asking them to sort the rattles the head up display has stopped working & there’s also a loud buzzing sound coming from the instrument cluster every time I get in the car & when I leave it. Not a PCM burble and instead it’s like an electromechanical door buzzer without the bell shroud.

They say the cross traffic detect needs a new computer module. They’re nonplussed about the buzzing sound & yet to comment on the non functioning HUD.

So far, my impressions for my 2 new Porsche purchases this year is summarised succinctly by, crap.

Just wondered if anyone would be interested in this. I’ve had loads of Porsche product from the same group over a 15 year period but this is extraordinary bad luck. Wifey says I should never have bought them in a pandemic. Dunno.

Totally disillusioned.

Simon

Hi Simon,
Very sorry to hear about your bad luck and problems on both vehicles.
I have a particular interest in the 992 Turbo S issues that were so bad you had your money refunded!!
I purchased mine last September but having kept it under cover throughout the winter months have only covered approximately 500 miles. So far I have had faulty alarm issues and messages coming up in the instrument display advising of a fault with the front end lift system. When the ignition is turned off and then on again it resets but any saved locations are lost. I also don’t know whether it’s a characteristic of the car but there is a faint chattering sound from the engine on tick over.
Are you able to advise of your issues as the press are nothing but in awe of the model and describe it as perfect in every way?
Many thanks
Chris

This is the reason I bought a 991 instead of a 992 after reading reports.
Unfortunately VAG ownership is doing the Porsche brand no favours. Im going to look elsewhere after the 991 as I have with other VW products, just look at a MK8 Golf. Bottom line is value engineering (cost cutting) is dragging things down whether it be in design, testing, construction or after sales and warranty.
In truth things have been iffy for quite a while , witness the stupid o ring water pipe joints, the poorly specified exhaust manifold bolting, ims, d chunking, dropping diesel and so on.
I really think being spread thinly trying to catch and fund the EV wave is adding to the problem

The upside for Porsche is that based on continued FF Range Rover sales (despite cars of dismal reliability) all this will be unlikely to dethrone them

1500 miles since collection last month and no problems so far.

I didn’t realise Simon bought a 991 Turbo S as not mentioned so presumed a 992! So it was the old model that he had problems with hence no response to my specific questions about my 992.....

He definitely had a 992 Turbo S - maybe he's just gone away to a green code country in an effort to forget about all matters Porsche! [:D]

Clive

???? maybe. Would’ve been good to have an answer to my questions though ??

Hi Cristo,

Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes it was a 992 911 Turbo S.

The main issue was the time it was taking the dealership to cure the failed innodrive. The car went back a few times to have it sorted and it would have needed a major part to be replaced.

The dealer was good throughout. Wasn't an issue of their making after all.

I have till July time to firm up the spec for a 2022 model.

Thanks,

Simon

Hi Simon,
Thank you for your comprehensive response, it was very interesting, and such bad luck on so many occasions!!
I haven’t suffered your sort of problems only those I mentioned.
I’m not sure what an innodrive is but presume it has something to do with the gearbox? And for the steering wheel to be out of alignment? Clearly very strange! Hopefully a new model will be a lot better and you’ll enjoy a trouble free experience.
Best wishes
Chris

Hi Chris,

Innodrive is a nice feature that adapts the speed of the car to what it thinks are national speed limits and road signs.

I've edied my reply to you above because after a re-read it was just a boring moan for everyone so i've cut a lot of it out now.

Thanks,

Simon

Sounds like you have been very unlucky.

Not wishing to rub it in but 11 months on with my 992 TurboS and no issues at all - very impressed with it all round.

That's the way it should be. I hope i'm in the minority. Hope too that the next one on order will be trouble free.

Not for this section by a quick update on my Taycan Turbo S I bought at the same time is back at the OPC now. It made/makes that weird buzzing sound from the front dash and the head up display has packed up. OPC doesn't know why & they've raised a ticket. Rear traffic cross traffic detect and park assist needs a new computer they say.

My 992 C2 MY2022 delivered Sept 2021 is driving me nuts. Just about to go back for the 5th. time re software issues. I have 360 cameras and full park assist. The park assist goes off many times for no reason. Occasionally Nav asks Find Destination ion German script. PCM goes blank from time to time. Oh, and those silly straps to release the seat backs (having replaced the perfectly satisfactory knobs) need the strength of a Gorilla. I returned the car because the driver's side were very difficult. The OPC justified it by saying the passenger seat just as difficult. Rattle behind drivers door car from new keeps recurring. Great car, but when 5% of my mileage is taking the car back it losses it'g "gloss".

Hi David,

I do hope you manage to get all of those sorted. I regretted returning mine and I wish i'd been more patient.

I'm hoping my new one this Nov will be bug free or nearly free of bugs.

Good luck there.

Tip - releasing the seat backrest.
Try putting a little pressure on the backrest with one hand whilst pulling the strap with the other. This tends to free up the locking rachet. [;)]
