Definitive Detail - PPF and Ceramic Coat

Hi all.

A while ago I was seeking recommendations to get front PPF and ceramic coating done on my 2019 car. I got lots of recommendations but ultimately wanted someone local (near Brentwood, Essex). After some research and discussion, I had it done by Paul at Definitive Detail (https://www.definitivedetail.co.uk/). Definitive Detail are based very close to me and near the A12/B1007 junction.

I have never had this done to my own car before but have seen the end result on a number of occasions. I believe the work done by Paul is up there with the best I have seen and would have no hesitation in recommending him and his services. He was both friendly and professional throughout and kept me informed of what was happening as the process progressed.

Very pretty Mike. All GTechniq products?
Hi Peter. The treatment I had done is:
Two stage machine polish
PremiumShield Elite PPF on front end/door mirrors/window-frame
Exterior, callipers, wheels etc. coated with GTechniq. Everything except wheels is Crystal Serum Ultra - Black (Black being the addition of EXO hydrophobic coating). Wheels were done with with a different final coating to sheet water rather than collect/pool droplets to prevent water gathering in little pools in the complicated nooks and crannies of the wheels (at Paul's recommendation).
I also had interior done as well as hood cleaned/treated, again with GTechniq products.

Interesting that he used Ultra over the PPF. My detailer uses Gtechniq Halo which is specifically for that process as I understand it.

Good products, though. Makes regular cleaning much easier.

Hi Mike

your car looks stunning.

I was about to order you're exact colour combo. The dealer told me that MB is likely to mark very easily and is very hard to keep clean. I’ve wanted MB since the 993 turbo on bad boys so I am disappointed at his view.

thanks....let me know how you’re getting on.::

I had heard similar comments about the colour and ease of marking etc. I don't think its as hard to keep clean as Black but does look dirty/dusty a lot sooner than a silver/grey. When Paul polished the car prior to PPF/Ceramic he did comment that there were a number of swirl marks etc. though overall it was not bad. It's part of the reason for my getting the PPF/Ceramic put on it. I haven't washed it myself, post treatment, yet and am hoping that when I do, I can get the same glistening finish as it had when I collected it after its 2 weeks at the Spa!

Hi Peter. I spoke to Paul about choice of products and it seems to come down to a couple of things. CSU (a "professional" only product which can only be applied by accredited detailers) comes with a 9 year guarantee (albeit I am not sure exactly what that means), whereas Halo is a prosumer product and does not have that guarantee. The other point was that as I was only having a part PPF it's better to use the same product on the whole car (ie CSU) rather than different products on the PPF part and non-PPF part as it means overall performance of the coating is the same across the whole car. I got the sense that Halo is targeted at cars with whole PPF/vinyl wrap.

Interesting, Mike. As my car is PPF on the front (wings, bonnet, bumper) only, it has been treated half and half! I'll quiz Adam at Revolution Detailing next time I see him.

I am guessing like many things, there is no definitive right or wrong answer and comes down to the preferences of the professionals involved.

Mine is in at the moment. It's having Chrystal Serum Ultra and Xpel Ultimate Plus front end including headlights, door mirrors, 'A' pillars and side skirts. Then coated with Gtechnq Halo, which I'm told is the recommended coating for PPF, although I'm sure Ultra will work equally as well.

Interestingly, my guy is coating the wheels with Ultra too, rather than the more normal C5 as he thinks this is a better long term bet.

Apparently, the Xpel side skirt pattern provides enhanced rear wheel arch coverage as well. So the factory film comes off and the Expel goes on

It comes back on Friday so I will know more then. Gosh - I'm into this detailing thing at last! :ROFLMAO:
