Mechanical/electric spoiler

Hey Guys, Had my 911 sc delivered last week and whilst I’m just getting to know it, what I do know is the massive smile that’s on my face driving it...right, am I right in thinking that I may have a motorised rear spoiler, pic attached, it’s not actually working to my knowledge currently and whilst I realise its not the original, I think I’m going to keep it and get it running correctly as I’m sure it’s a very subtle and lovely mod when working! Any ideas what could be stopping it from running, bad switch/relay, it looks as if all is intact, i have the switch in the cab on the dash. Pic attached, seems no power and will be checked at Hainault Porsche mechanics Friday coming along with some other bits that are not working, windows are not running correctly alongside the odemeter and the horn to name a few but the good news is the sunroof works a charm and there are no leaks, the body and the engine are solid but the interior will have a full overhaul/retrim. Went out for a drive into hackney and got it papped by the local parked in hackney guys! Ha! Any info would be wicked. Pics attached.

NO idea on the spoiler, but the odometer is likely to be the little amber-coloured gearwheel - the teeth strip when it goes soft after 35 - 40 years. There's a repair process on Pelican, I think. The replacement gear is available; a complete speedo stripdown.
Happy motoring..

The spoiler is an after-market addition surely - I have never seen an SC with an automatic spoiler.
In the UK the Sport package offered the classic ´whale tail’ spoiler together with wheel and suspension upgrades, otherwise no spoiler.

Hey Chaps,

yes, I realise its an after market addition from 964 or 993 and have found links to it but I think it’s a nice little mod and am looking to keep and get working correctly, I just wondered if anyone had come across it and for things to maybe check on my quest to get it running! Thanks very much chaps! All the best. Tom

Hi Tom,

Sorry I am not too familiar with the 964 rear spoiler operation but you should be able to find some info on the net or maybe ask in the 964 section of this forum I am sure some of the guys there will be happy to share help.

First thing would obviously be to make sure you have got power coming to your switch in the cabin (these spoilers I believe had a automatic controller so they would raise at certain speeds etc, and had a switch as well to over ride the speed system) and also power to the spoiler. So check fuses and also the relay (under the seat in 964 I think)
Once you have power, I have read that : "there are 2 limit switches on the gear mechanism to the left hand side of the spoiler. One is to stop the motor on wind down while the other does the same on windup. Check that the sw has been operated in the down position, if not disconnect the drive gear and set the spoiler to the closed position and reconnect the drive cable, that should do the trick. Clean and lightly lubricate the drive mechanism and it should be OK"

Keep us posted

Hi Tom,
I used JDO to repair my speedo. They did a good job. [FONT=geneva, arial, sans-serif"][FONT=geneva, arial, sans-serif"]www.jdo1.com[FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=geneva, arial, sans-serif"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]
I think Edd on wheeler dealer repaired a rear spoiler, but it was on a 993. I think a lot of the mechanism will be the same.
From memory I think he had a worn gear. If the spoiler mechanism has not moved in a while, parts of it could be seized. Having power though is a good start.

The guys at RPM on Cheddington have a contact that rebuilt my speedo - brittle cogs with missing teeth etc. The clever bit is that he did it without breaking the seals on the back. Afraid I don’t know who it was, but knowing RPM, I’m sure they would be glad to put you in touch. rpmtechnik.co.uk

Hey bu, thanks so much. I’ve just popped it on the box and it is indeed the same spoiler Ed fixes. Will have a proper look around this weekend and test everything but that’s a help to start with and of course, having power will defo help! thanks.
