Track Day Insurance

I am looking for some advice/experience with track day insurance. I have book the Brands track day in May and am wondering whether anyone can recommend any companies or can give a rough idea of what I can expect to pay. I have had one quote of £730.

Best bet is to get annual insurance that includes it, some classic / Porsche  specialist policies do.
One off event insurance is usually quite expensive and is dependant on your cars value.
A well run trackday reduces the risk of damage but there is still a risk, insurance is not compulsory however.

Paul,

This is a question which is raised regularly on the forums and as Tony has said it’s much cheaper to get insurance which includes track day cover. Specialist brokers like ClassicLine, Lockton and ManningUK include track day cover in their policies, subject to an increased excess.

You may well find that annual cover for your car from one of these providers is less than the £730 quote you’ve been given for track day cover alone!

Just had my renewal from Mannings and not a happy chap.

I have been with Mannings for a number of years and last year paid £518 for my GT4, my renewal has come through at £859. where did that come from ???  The car has done 1500 miles in the last year and has been on SORN for the last 5 months. Mannings tell me they have had the worst year for claims for 10 years, how could that be ? I just don't get it. They say the GT4 has the worst record of all.
My 16 years no claims and company loyality seems to stand for nothing.
I have tried ClassicLine and after several conversations they are down to £680 which I still think is expensive but options are limited if you want trackday cover.
With the comparison sites I can get it as low as £280 and by using Saga who cover my house I can get £480 and have it fixed for 3 years subject to no claims, but no trackday cover.
I have not tried Locktons yet but in the past they have always been expensive, I think they would sooner cover older cars.

If anyone has any bright ideas please let me know and I would be interested to know if anyone else has had similar experiences.

Geoff,
My ManningUK policy went up by 25% too, they were prepared to knock off about £30 if I opted out of trackday cover. They were still cheaper than Classicline so I stayed with ManningUK because I couldn’t be bothered to shop around anymore which would involve the aggravation of keep answering the numerous questions each company asks. It‘s a shame that Locktons is an exclusive partnership with the club rather than one of a range of insurers offering some sort of preferential rates.

There are a couple of other threads where ManningUK’s increases have been mentioned:

Not looking forward to my ManningUK renewal in May but thanks to the feedback on here I`ll be chasing others up soon

Last January my Focus ST Mk4 jumped by almost 50%, Aviva (via Marsh) have over the past year been `getting out` of certain areas of the market. I used to have three cars with them, now none

During the January renewal Marsh in Cardiff redirected me to their commercial office here in Aberdeen. I took their best offer, with Zurich and the option of monthly payments at no extra cost. Their policy was an improvement over the previous Aviva item

ManningUK ... were good when I started with them last May but since then other requests for putting business their way has been poorly treated and even ignored

I’ve just received my renewal quote from ClassicLine for my 987.2 CS, based upon a limited mileage of just 3,000, an agreed value of £26k (?) and including track day cover as well as UK and EU breakdown cover with Homestart.

My premium has gone up by the princely sum of … £7, from £363 to £370. Result!

Oh dear! Sorry about that Geoff.

Like you I can’t figure out how, when we’ve been in lockdown for most of the past year, claims have gone up! Have people jumped into their cars, forgotten how to drive and crashed willy-nilly into anything and everything? I think not.

Geoff,

I’ve no connection, nor do I know anything about them, but someone here suggested Brentacre Insurance, a Swansea broker:

https://www.brentacre.co.uk/

Worth a call to see what they can offer.

Just a little bump on this thread to see if any of you fared better?
I'm getting horrible quotes in for a 997.2 C4 GTS Cab.

LVE is the best at a hair shy of 1,200 but no trackday
Classic Line want £1975 but including trackday

Got a request in with Manning and Chris Knott to see if I can get anything better, but resigning to a killer premium.
It's got some minor mods including a remap but not increasing HP - reporting them jumped the price from $800 on LVE.

Anyone had any luck elsewhere?

Recently changed from ManningUK to Classic Line and saved a packet ... £595 with track cover and 5k p.a.

As noted above - Brentacre focus on modified cars but not sure on track cover ?

Not used them for many years but try ... Insurance - Track Day Guru

Having booked a Performance Driving Experience at Knockhill Circuit for the end of the month (one hour - 25 lap - one to one tuition - max. six cars on track) I called Classicline to confirm cover (my previous insurer ManningUK would not cover this type of event, albeit potentially safer than a free for all trackday)

Cover confirmed and paperwork issued all within five minutes
