CAYENNE - AUDIO ISSUE

My 2014 958 Cayenne audio has developed an intermittent problem whereby the cabin speakers stop working but the bass speaker below the spare when continues to operate.

This started yesterday when driving the car. It was -0.5c outside so maybe temperature related?

The symptoms are that the audio plays as normal then there is loud interference noise coming from the front speakers, the audio then goes loud and quiet then cuts out altogether. After a period of time the audio returns and the sequence starts all over again!!

Any ideas?

Thanks

I too developed a similar problem a few weeks ago. It’s going to a specialist on Thursday for a service and they are looking at it. As soon as I started to describe it they asked if I have Bose and a panaramic roof (yes) as they have seen this before and it is the Bose amplifier which is located in the offside side panels of the boot area I think. They said if you have sunroof or pan roof the water drains run in same area, get blocked and then water runs on amp and corrodes etc. As advised I raised the boot floor and checked spare wheel well and poked and prodded the sound deadening foam etc you can then see just below boot side trims to see if wet but it was dry. They said they have had them where amp has just failed. So worth checking boot area under the floor? They said that even if it is wet strangely there is not usually an internal condensation problem. They have changed a few amps.

My noises start as soon as I switch on and come from rear - crackling/popping interference type noise. After car has run a short while it subsides and often goes with only an odd noise as you brake. Sometimes the speakers suddenly stop but muffled radio still comes from rear speaker. Mines a Feb 2014 Platinum edition V6 diesel.

They are also checking my battery as it seems to be on its way out (Low COVID lockdown miles all this year/cold weather) Speaker did start this around time I noticed a couple of electrical oddities They are also checking my battery as it seems to be on its way out (Low COVID lockdown miles all this year/cold weather) Speaker did start this around time I noticed a couple of electrical oddities (memory seat not moving forward when first getting in, and then ‘parked battery protection’ warnings). Specialist does not think low battery is issue with the speaker noises.

Not sure if this helps, and I will up date after Thursday and specialist has looked.

Now fixed following a trip to OPC - New Bose amp and sunroof drains cleaned. £1300 lighter ouch!!

Did they say anything about how to keep the drains clear?
my old lexus has had a similar problem but it was a least gracious enough just to wet the carpet. Tye solution with that was thin strimmer cord..
do you keep your cayenne outside?

Well this morning I had a call from Porsche who wanted the go ahead to investigate further, obviously they want me to spend more money, it’s clear to me what the fault is, water has gotten into the radio amplifier. I will keep you updated, however I don’t get the feeling that Porsche are very sympathetic to the situation that should never arise in the first place.

Porsche Hatfield have quoted the work £3200, for replacing the damaged amplifier, also to replace the motor for the glass roof.
Apparently they are being very kind to offer me £500 and a two year extended warranty for the work they do, which is probably not worth the paper it’s written on.
This is a factory fault that should have repaired free of charge and Porsche should have owned the design fault, instead they shrug it off by saying the drain plugs should have been serviced by themselves.
The car is kept in a garage hardly exposed to the elements, only done 16,000 miles, I feel very disappointed and let down by this huge quality name Porsche, (NOT) I think this will be my last Porsche I have lost faith in them and I would urge anyone who is considering buying a Porsche to think twice, their customer service is based on making you dig deep into your pockets and that’s about it. I will take this further with the head office and update everyone.

Hi yes the car is Feb 2017. serviced first by Porsche second time by my local mechanic, but the water ingress was discovered by him, it happened a lot earlier prior to the service being due.

I am sat waiting for my 'new' Porsche Cayenne (2014) that I put a deposit on 3 weeks ago. I was due to collect it from JCT600 tomorrow, booked the tickets and everything only to be told the car isnt ready as the stereo keeps cutting out and it could be an issue with the BOSE amplifier. Reading the comments in this thread, I'm close to pulling the plug on it and buying a BMW X5 instead.

The poor customer service scares me, had enough of that from my Range Rover days. :(

I have blocked sunroof drains which has resulted in the amp / speakers not working. I put in a formal complaint with Porsche GB and they asked me to send it to Porsche Nottingham for diagnostics. My complaint centred around the fact that sunroof drains are not in the manufacturer's official servicing manual, so irrespective of whether you take it to Porsche specialist or an OPC, it's not on the servicing list!! Also, given the fact that the sunroof drains are located directly above the electrics, and are known for blocking, this is a design fault. They have informed me that the repair will be £14,000 plus VAT to replace the amp and wiring loom. My complaint was not upheld, and I have now sent it on to the ombudsman. Six month, waiting list!

Out of interest, have you considered trying an independent audio specialist? That quote is absurd! I would be looking at a non Porsche upgrade and installation instead.

So, at 2021 prices:

Case1: Replace Bose amp and clean sunroof drains - £1,300

Case2: Replace amp and glass roof motor - £3,200 [with £500 discount]

Now:

Case3: Replace amp and wiring loom - £14,000! 😳

I know that Porsche dealers have ramped-up prices significantly post-Covid, but that quote is ridiculous. As John has said, I’d be looking elsewhere - either an alternative Porsche dealer or an independent audio specialist.
