Tyres on 992

Morning All,

From the looks of it, 992's leave the factory wearing either Goodyear Eagle F1's or Pirelli P-Zero's. My understanding is that it's pot luck with ones you end up with as there doesn't appear to be any pattern related to wheel choice or driven wheels etc.

Therefore, for those of you who have taken delivery of your cars, which tyres did you get and how are you getting on with them?

I myself personally am a big fan of Michelin tyres, had them on all my previous BMW ///M cars and really like the grip and feel of them in all weather conditions. Unfortunately, it appears that even though Michelin is a motorsport partner of Porsche, the 992's don't seem to come fitted with them. I've seen a few press release cars with Michelin's but not seen any cars in reality with them.

Thanks.

Quite correct. It's always been a contradiction.

Whilst Porsche make a big play of saying they will build the car their customer wants, it has never been possible to specify which tyres it comes on. You can blame 'Just In Time' production modelling for that. In other words, you get what has been delivered at the factory that day.

Having said that, you can be confident the tyres Porsche fit will be specifically developed and eminently suitable for your car. The performance will be such that chances are, your nerve will fail well before that of your car's! [:D]
Regards,

Clive

Thanks Clive, that's positive feedback at least that regardless of which tyres are fitted that grip levels will be high.

It's just that as far as car tyres are concerned, I've not been happy with Pirelli P-Zero's in the past on a Mercedes, especially in the wet.

To be honest, they are just tyres to me and I have barely had a chance to drive the car. Sorry I cannot offer any more.

No problem, weather has not been great and we are under a lockdown as well. ????

I've got Goodyears on my C2S and again have not driven it much recently, but had a couple of days at Millbrook with CAT Driver Training and have to say the tyres were excellent. There's quite a lot of handling circuit work, extreme manoeuvres at high speed, limit braking etc and the car performed seemingly faultlessly to my untutored backside.

Hi Peter,

Thank you, that's good feedback on the tyres and sounds like a very fun day out you had. ??

Thanks for sharing the details Peter, I will for sure lookout for dedicated Club days there. Be nice to attend something like that and meet some of you.

Pirelli P Zeros on my C2S. They seem very good, Have driven in all conditions including extremely heavy rain and, on one occasion, snow and they've not given any problems. About 15k on them now and they should be good for another 5 to 10 k.

Thanks Philip, great feedback. So this gives me confidence that whatever mines ends up with they'll be up to the mark. ????

And to confirm my view, on Thursday I had to drive from Andorra to Toulouse with the last part in really heavy rain, and yesterday I had to drive back in mostly very heavy rain at least until I was 2/3rds of the way up the pass into Andorra 9 (about 2,000 metres), all in Sport mode, without a single twitch and despite the stupid Wet mode message appearing a few times.

Thanks Philip, that's really good to hear and it sounds like you've been having a lot of fun with a nice drive out, despite the bad weather conditions. The fact you were driving in Sport mode as well then that bodes well for the tyre performance. I'm no longer worried which tyres my car comes with, although it would be nice if Porsche gave you the choice when spec'ing car.

Well it was business rather than purely a pleasure drive but rather than take the dual carrriageway/peage from Tarascon to Toulouse I took the RN from just North of Foix through Pailhes and into Toulouse from the South, and took the same route back yesterday. My only concern getting to Tarascon around 4.45pm CET yesterday was that the temp was 5.5c and I had over a 1,000 metre climb up to the border so I thought it might be snowing towards the top in which case assuming I could get to Hospitalet I could go through the tunnel into Spain and back to Andorra from the South. Temp was indeed 0c at the top but it had stopped raining and there had not been any fresh snow since I left Thursday pm so all was good.

15k?! I’ve done 8k on my Pirelli’s and there’s only 4.5mm left on the back and 5 on the front. It‘s a C4, never been tracked and I do mainly motorway miles ??

My C2S cab is just shy of 8k miles and in for its 2 year service. Amber advisory to replace rear tyres at 4mm. As I want matched all round, may hold off a while, but Im thinking Pilot Sport4S is the way to go.
I have had another warning at service but that needs to be a separate thread
