Taycan Test Drive

Anyone booked to go to Grantley Hall this week on the Taycan demonstration drive?
We are going tomorrow Tuesday afternoon.

We are booked in Friday morning.

It's going to be interesting, but going to take something proper noisy for the trip home to make up for it [:D]

I think we might be there on Thursday, we did enjoy driving the Taycan recently when our Boxster was with OPC Hull, a superb experience albeit quiet, which is unlike us.

Interesting experience having never driven anything electric or even hybrid.
Well built car and certainly stylish/futuristic to look at.
We drove a well specced white Turbo Taycan which was very very rapid and handles well for its size and weight on the backroads around Grantley Hall, BUT, almost whisper quiet with no emotion.
Ideal long distance cruiser for those that need a full four door five seat large vehicle, not a sports car.
Gave the Boxster a good thrash on the way home on Sports Plus and manual which made up for the lack of noise with the Taycan. ????????
Grantley Hall is a lovely hotel set in superb landscaped grounds which were worth exploring.

I passed you on your way home in the white Taycan Turbo S Tim. Think you got back just as we were setting off.

Really enjoyed driving the car, amazing spec and loved the Tech. Agree about the noise (or lack of it but did actually like the synthesised engine noise on acceleration and braking). If I could afford one, I’d have one in a heart beat. Unltimate long distance daily. Unfortunately I can’t afford one so will have to wait until I can. At least I have something to look forward to! Jeez that thing is rapid. I thought I had floored and thought "that’s really quite fast”. Turns out I hadn’t! So next time I got some space in front I really floored it and the thing shocked me. Once you get used to it the acceleration is quite addictive. Hard to judge the speed I thought, its so refined you could easily end up going faster than the speed limit without realising. I didn’t want to get out at the end!

Amazing venue, stayed for a bit and had a wander round. The building with the curved zinc roof looks truly unique and impressive. The Porsche people were saying the lady who owns the venue spent over 70 million on the place! For any one who is going, I hope you enjoy the experience as much as we did.

Thank you Porsche for the experience and producing what has to be one of the best cars in the world right now.

Hi Dean, yes saw you wave as we passed. I agree the Taycan is certainly very rapid, the route they are using is a very twisty country road so it would be interesting to open it up on some ‘A’ Roads. We came up behind a lorry on our route back to Grantley Hall and performed a very fast overtake out of a right hander when the road opened up ahead and down a dip and it absolutely flew like the the wind??????

We went along Friday morning. It was very impressive and would make an excellent daily driver, just not at £150K. I just can't see it being worth that.

Like others, I think I didn't press the quiet pedal hard enough. We did some overtakes and it was clearly quick, I just didn't think that quick. Then I got a clear spot and put pedal to the carpet. Jesus Christ that is fast, I actually felt slightly sick!

So if that is the future, it's not so bad. Comapred to our SC60, it really hid its weight. Very impressive.

Couple of things I didn't like, beside the price. The fake noise in sport plus, really WTF. Where my hands naturally fell on the steering wheel had the square edges on the wheel centre digging in. The switches for mirrors were a bit naff.

I would have one as a daily, just needs to be cheaper.

So, just how noisy is the Volvo?

A poor choice in the end, but we needed a back seat for a bit.

Made up for it on Saturday, treated Lincolnshire to the joys of a V8

That’s very good to hear; in more ways than one.
