Oil Top Up Macan S gen 2

Hi all

my oil is getting low on the electronic dipstick, it’s not asking for oil yet, however I will be doing a lot of miles next week and would rather top it up

I know it’s Mobile One 0w-30w and C30 grade see photo

the Local OPC wants me to take the car in for a diagnostic to determine the amount of oil required

this looks like a money grab to me

has any one had oil topped up and the knows the quantity

if I do half of the min to max top up I would feel more comfortable and certainly want to avoid either running low next week miles from a dealer or over filling

thanks Gary

Just keep a 1l bottle in the car (there's usually one supplied in a nice Porsche zip up case), when it alerts you for top up you can simply empty the entire litre in and job's done.

If you don't already have a one litre pack of the correct Mobil 1 oil, Costco or Halfords stock it. OPC's charge a premium for oil. Do the job yourself and save money. To avoid any danger of over-filling, check the oil level in the normal way, switch off the engine, remove the oil filler cap and add half the 1 litre pack. Restart the engine and check the oil level again. Top up again if necessary.

Thanks Brian

it was the risk of over filling, what I am after is between minimum and maximum how much oil is needed

I find it irritating that you are expected to visit the OPC for a simple task and they will not share the information on the phone

The oil indicator light may come on if the electronic system detects a drop in oil level. This doesn't necessarily mean that your oil is low as there is a low and high point on the "top up" system. I purchased my Macan GTS last December which had a 111 point check etc and when driving the 2 hours home the oil level light came on during a pit stop. Of course I phoned the OPC who apologised and sent me a 1 litre pack of oil, to go along with my existing 1 litre in the boot. I carried on driving since it is only a warning light and topped up with 0.5 litre when I got home. The light came on again at about 6 months after purchase but I ignored it as it only came on when on an incline with a warm engine and hasn't come on since. In summary, no need to visit your OPC. Hope this helps.

A trip to Halfords to purchase the required Mobil 1 0W-30W oil £26 one Ltr C30 grade

topped up 300 ML which took the electronic oil level from 1/4 to about 2/3

thanks all ??

Following an enquiry at OPC Chester regarding the correct grade of Mobil 1 engine oil, I received the following recommendation from the Gold Master Technician.

Apparently Porsche recommend two grades of Mobil 1 ESP (Emission Protection System) for the Generation 2 Macan Turbo.

Porsche say Mobil 1 ESP 0W - 30 and 5W - 30 are both appropriate. In my particular case, after being made aware of the type of driving my Macan Turbo is subjected to, the Gold Master Technician has recommended 5W - 30 as the best oil grade for my car. I have now received a complimentary one litre pack for subsequent topping up purposes. Photo below.

I was also advised to leave the oil level at one segment below the maximum mark for my forthcoming track test. With the G-forces involved in cornering at track speeds, I have been told it's preferable not to have the oil at the maximum mark. This is contrary to my previous experience with track events with my Caymans where I always made sure the oil was at the maximum mark before setting out on the track. I never had any problems with this course of action throughout the many hundreds of track miles I did with my Cayman models.

I'll be keeping a close eye on the oil levels between track lap sessions, and top up with 5W - 30 as required, after the car has cooled down.

I have a 2019 Gen 2 Macan S and have completed 7000 miles from new, and I have recently topped up the levels as dictated by the instrument panel display. The oil that the OPC recommends is 0W - 20 ESP (1 litre bottle provided at handover).
The Mobil plate in the engine compartment states 0W-30 (C30). My typical journeys over the coming winter months will be low/med speed therefore the 0W-20 SAE grade should suffice considering the cold starts etc, however considering the earlier comments from fellow Macan owners should I consider the heavier grade 0W-30 grade for summer use.
I did contact the Mobil ! Help desk and there data sheet states that Mobil 1 0W-40 should be used on higher performance engines which is not helpful. Incidentally I have always used Mobil 1 0W - 40 grade on my gen 1 997 for the past 12 years with no problems during high speed usage in Europe. I would appreciate any comments please.

Steve,

Your generation 2 Macan will require the ESP Mobil 1 oil. The previous Mobil 1 0W-40 grade is apparently not recommended for vehicles manufactured after September 2018 which are fitted with the GPF exhaust catalysers.

I asked the same question as you to my OPC in Chester who supplied my car. I was duly sent a complimentary litre of Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 oil for topping up my Gen 2 Macan Turbo. So far, after 3000 miles from new I have topped up the oil only once. I added 250ml to maintain the oil level mark at one segment below max.

On the topic of correct engine oil grades for Porsches, a Cayman owning friend and fellow contributor to this forum Wollemi, forwarded me a copy of what appears to be an official list of Porsche approved engine oils for models from 1984 to 2019 inclusive. The document is dated February 2020.

Regarding Macan model range, the list shows different grades of oils for the various models. The oil I was recommended and supplied by my OPC, Mobil 1 ESP C30 5W-30 is indeed correct for my Gen 2 Macan Turbo. According to this list both 0W-30 and 5W-30 Mobil 1 oils are approved by Porsche for the Gen 2 Macan Turbo 2019 model year.

All model years of the Macan, Macan S, and Macan GTS, also have their individual recommended engine oils listed.

For your information, and with grateful thanks to Wollemi, I attach the list below. According to the statement on the document, updated versions are available online.

Lots of interesting info on here, .. my query is related but slightly different ..
I have a 2021 Macan S (petrol) which has just completed ~11k miles and firstly had an oil low message, but now it says it's OK !

My actual query is the the oil recommended on the label inside the bonnet says I should use Mobil 1 Porsche C20 SAE 0W-20 oil.

The OPD included this bottle of oil in a bag in the boot, but I'm concerned because it has the word diesel on the front is it the wrong oil ?

I use Mobile 1 5W-30 in my 2021 GTS, but if 0W-20 grade is recommended then use that. You just need to check its Porsche C40 grade lubricant, which indicates its suitability for vehicles with gas particulate filters, so it can therefore be used in diesel engines too.

It iust the C that matters more than the 40. Porsche are actually recommending C20 at present for the post 2019 cars with the Audi petrol v6's although in 2019 the under bonnet sticker says C30.

Thank you all for your comments and advice, ... the Dealer confirmed (on the phone) that the bottle they put in the boot with the green top and the word diesel on it is correct and should be used.
