Just tried LEDs with PDLS+......wow!

I’ve had the GTS for nearly 4 weeks and c 800 miles. Coming home tonight, had the opportunity to experience the LED lights with pdls plus. The way the beam changes based on oncoming vehicles etc seems so much more advanced than some of the other systems I have had in other cars. The main beam is absolutely stunning.....almost to the point that road signs with a white background are dazzling!

My wife has had another evening of me telling her how good the car is.....

I had them on my old 718 Cayman GTS (4-cylinder). They are excellent on a twisty country lane after dark, but they are *so* bright that they made several signs with white backgrounds completely unreadable and dazzling to me. Current car has Xenons with PDLS and these are more than adequate, just without the dazzle.

I never used the high beam assist. I simply can't believe that the car can get this right on its own in all situations, but maybe I'm just a luddite.

I’m not familiar with the LEDs but I spec’d the Bi-Xenons with PDLS on my 987.2 CS and have always been impressed with their performance, especially on unilluminated twisty backroads where the “road-following” feature is particularly useful.

When I spec’d them I thought that it may just be a bit of a gimmick but I reckon that it’s an excellent safety feature and very intuitive in that, as in daytime driving, it allows you to look around the corner rather than just straight ahead as with a conventional beam.

Jeff,

They are really very good, not only for the seeing round corners (my Nordschiefe picture of my old car shows the old bi-xenon lens movement) but also the beam pattern, lumination level and self-dipping are significant benefits for night-time driving.

Ralph,

Good to hear that things have moved on significantly in the past 11-years since PDLS became a new option for the Cayman. Expensive, but I think worth it. My Bi-Xeons are more than bright enough for me but I’m sure that the LEDs are at another level of illumination.

I think you’ve commented previously on the effectiveness of the self-dipping feature which I’ve heard can be a bit hit-and-miss on other installations.

Jeff
