718 Spyder Classic Interior / 918 buckets / Michelin Cup Tyres

Lucky enough to have a build slot on a new 718 Spyder, deliver in December. A couple of questions.
1) Option now to have summer tyres and not Michelin Cup 2 - would prefer to keep the best tyre on the car as not opting for those means it’s a lottery as to what will be fitted - advice /experience on all year round use?
2) Classic Interior Red top dash - reflective and distracting or OK?
3) 918 buckets - want the GT car experience, general opinion is comfortable - experience / advice welcome.

Welcome ...

981 GT4 experience, three months in ...

- Cup 2`s are superb in the dry but do restrict my use (too timid perhaps )
- 918 buckets are excellent

1. If you are going to track it - get the Cup2, if not go MPS4S - they last longer and are a bit better in the wet. 90% of the time you won't notice any difference.
2. It is slightly distracting but not enough to put me off.
3. Only thing to do is go sit in them - some find them comfy, others not. Most common complaint is that this sit too upright.

(oh - and come join the 'Porsche Boxster Spyder (UK)' group on Facebook - we're off to C&M this Sat, there might be some there with the carbon seats, certainly some with the 18-way)

A December delivery isn't the best time to be running on Cup 2s David, but I suppose you could argue that summer tyres aren't ideal either! As you say, summer tyre fitment is a lottery and probably you're more likely to end up with PZeros, although you may be able to negotiate something with the Dealership if that's what turns up.

As said, if you're not going to track the car a summer tyre would be a much better choice.

Thanks for that. Have PEC day on Sept 2 with a bucket equipped Spyder so that will be decision day. Friend with 987 Spyder said they make the car and plenty of evidence of people using them in GT3s as daily drivers so I’m more confident to go for them. Red dash a slight concern but GT Silver and Red goes so well, perhaps polarised glasses will reduce any distraction. December delivery is a pre-Brexit reason - I’d rather get car in than face 10% increase....Not tracking it so if they fit MPS4S I’ll be content.....early spring running in here we come...!

Silver exterior and red leather interior the perfect combination, there is no distraction whatsoever with a red dash, you won’t notice it.

I find the 918 buckets comfortable and useable day to day, height adjustment is a bonus too. Personally I’m not keen on the two tone nature of the classic interior - in my opinion it looks ok with silver but clashes with other colours especially the dark ones. Not scientific but it does appear that the classic interior cars hang around longer used - obviously not an issue if it’s a keeper and anyway we’re all different so spec it how you’d like it is my advice.

I have a GT Silver Spyder due in December as well. My thinking was if I didn't take it I would drop to the back of the order line. I have specced summer tyres as I won't track the car. Black leather with silver stitching for me as I am not to keen on the red leather. I am going for the standard seat as I need seat heating and height adjustment. Not an investors choice but I hope to keep the car a long time.

Thanks for the advice all of it is well received and allowing me to make key decisions. was originally earmarked for a 4.0 GTS but with a 981 GTS already and having just sold a 2.7 manual I‘m very confident this will be significant step up and being my first ‘GT‘ car will be a great long term car. 4.0 in Python was my spec but the Spyder is truly stunning. Definitely a keeper hence the spec (like the GTS) important to get right - I’m set on the GT silver I may spec a black interior / black roof and see how it compares (Janko Lind of YouTube fame) has done that. For those who have red roof/interior is it burgundy/darkish as videos seem to show it more red whereas photos show it as more burgundy.

I have Dunlop Race 2’s on mine and they are great in dry. A bit scary in very wet conditions. Aquaplanes in standing water and the back tries to overtake the front if accelerating too hard. That said it’s a real hoot in any weather. I have the heated bucket seats in mine with the hinged backs. I have had these in my last 2 cars and they are a perfect long journey fit for me.

As to colours get what you like and enjoy....

Shame folding buckets no longer on configurator - Porsche obviously want you to spend as much as possible on seats hence the Carbon ones are now the only ’bucket’ available. Was concerned about no heating but have heated wheel and Alcantara generally quite warm. Leather seat convertible would definitely need heated seats - appreciate the comment on tyres, dealer highly recommended the summer tyre option, i don’t want it to be a summer only car for sure. I’ll see what the instructors say at PEC, some journalists have said the Cup tyres are better in the cold than ever before but as some of you kindly said I don’t want to swap ends!

I'd go with the red roof on the GT Silver, friend just picking up a Turbo S with Burgundy interior and it looks stunning. Even if you ho with black interior, I'd still go with the red roof. Nice to have the choice, but with so many choices, comes doubt ??????
It will be stunning car what ever you pick ???? hopefully you'll update the post with a few pics

Interesting update post PEC day. Firstly the tyres. Started day dry, then damp and finally full wet. instructor deliberately showed me that Cup 2s when switched on In the dry were simply amazing and make the car. Even in heavy rain, they were good and I could push the car quite hard. Standing water at speed would not be great but that’s probably the same for all tyres. In such conditions just slow down! Seats - test car had folding buckets - brilliant. Just checking at OPC that 918 style seats are the same shape as I have ‘muscle memory’ of how they feel and after 2.5 hours in them, not a problem. Spec lock down tomorrow for Nov build and Dec delivery. Can’t wait! Pics when delivered. GT Silver and red roof is the one for me.....
