Horn activating under braking

Hi

My horn has started activating all by itself under fairly heavy braking. Suspect it is the contact in the steering wheel. Remember in my early 914 and 73 911 the horn pad simply came off if you twisted it. Do you know if the horn pad is easy to remove or is it something need the garage to look at due to air bags etc.

I did mine myself a couple of years ago - horn sounding whenever I turned right- and I have a standard wheel with airbag. I cant remember the details but it was a bit fiddly but not difficult. Seem to recall you need some long reach torx bits to get it apart. I found a guide on line somewhere that walked me through it. Took a couple of hours going slowly and carefully

Hello James

The rubbers that are part of the airbag frame will have worn, you have to disconnect the battery and wait twenty minutes before fiddling with the airbag.
There are two T30 (I think) torx screws to the rear of the steering wheel, airbag wire and connection pulls off.

You will then be able to see the other two wires for the horn.
You can then access the horn mechanism plate.
Have fun.

Suggest you search various posts you can find via Google for this, a common problem not just for 993, but earlier Boxsters too (many had the same steering wheel set up).

Fixed mine with varied rubber grommets/washers, straightforward to do if you have the Torx bit mentioned [;)]
