Really need to get out more !

Frenchy

New member
Took the car for its MOT 2 days ago even though the government had given me six months free gratis !

I always get a ticket and anything that needs doing gets done, nothing at all ??

My my post is due to the fact that the car has just covered 300 miles since last test, I need to use it or sell it.........Nah !

Same here Frenchy - it has just been sitting there even though I've washed it twice, just polished it and waxed.

So came home on Sunday and said sod it and went out for just over an hour around a real nice driving road near me that goes over Clee Hill, put a massive grin on my face and reminds me how scary it can feel when the boost kicks in on these cars! [:D]

Looking forward to getting to some events later in the year - do you ever here anything about the 944 register? last few updates I've read in the Porsche Post was all about the register secretary's personal cars.

Mike is the registrar secretary and TBH finding something to write about in these times is hard as nothing is happening on the event front, I know this as I am the chair for the BMW Car Club GB Cumria Region and try to send a write up for the magazine every month.
Belts being done over winter and hopefully off to Spa Classic next year, weather looks good for the weekend need to get out and about.

I did more miles in the 968 than my A4 this last 12 months

went to collect something the mrs bought off Facebook marketplace, 120 mile round trip last Thursday, 3300 miles in the 968, 2800 in the economic A4 tdI, the 968 is just so much more fun

I don’t know why you guys can’t find time to have a little drive, it don’t do the cars any good just sitting around

It's a crying shame to use it for only 300 miles. But understandable and easily done.

The main reason I've decided to put mine up for sale is that I couldn't see myself using it over the next year or two. Other than purely going for a drive for the sake of it, which is hardly the most eco thing to do! Plus it would be in storage facility away from my home or office, so even going to see or collect it would be a (minor) hassle.

But I managed a little over 1000 miles in it last year, so that was worthwhile and fun.

(Mine's for sale at: www.classicmoderncars.co.uk)

1k for me last year, must get out in her more. Made a good start, covered a few hundred miles on Sunday, it was our 40th wedding aniversary and we took the 951 down to the south coast for an enjoyable day

Thank's Martyn, hopefully we can all get out for a meet soon..mind you the news today states the second wave has begun rolling across Europe...:(

congrats Pete!!

must have been a lovely feeling mate in there with the misses. ( did you sh@t her up for for a bit and plip the throttle just for the crack!? )

think i did 380 miles in mine last year and most of those was journey to gettin it to Wayne the wizzard!

Thanks Dan...my wife is well used to my driving....she has no problem instructing me to slow down when she thinks I'm going too fast, she's been in the car at well over twice tge UK speed limit. IIRC, she only said something twice Sunday but this was about the G force on her neck rather than actual speed, I forget that she isn't always expecting me to plant it a little and thus her neck takes a battering. I must remember we are old now, well middle-aged at least...:)

Had a few years of tiny miles between MOTs. Mine is a daily driver but I don’t need it for work. Last year I used the car to travel to Mountain Bike races around the country rather than the sensible car.
The car was far happier being used for decent length journey, my wallet less so.
Looks like the race season will be starting again in the Autumn so it’ll see some decent use again.

The A4 tdi does about 48 mpg most of the time, good stereo, but god it’s soulless, so boring to drive

the 968 does about 32 on a motorway run, but it’s much more fun, the car has a personality, a bit of soul, well worth the extra 40% fuel cost

you got it in one Martin! ....as per usual [:)]

i actually don’t care how much mine costs in fuel never have,.... if i don’t want to spend the money i just take a boring ride in the transit or the jeep ( although the jeep is quick and luxurious, ...it’s still boring to me! [;)]

My problem Fella's is too many toys !
Mini Cooper S R53 supercharged
Alfa Romeo 159 Ti
and the 944 as hobby cars, it genuinely is finding time, Mini being used tomorrow, Alfa not driven for a week, 944 sitting in the garage at home, I have wooden garage doors which I like and don't want to replace for an electric jobbie, I have to shuffle cars about and wedge the doors if it is windy which it often is in Cumbria to get it out without damage.
Daily is an X3 which does everything for me, I have a ton of interests other than cars, Salmon are running at the moment and I spend a considerable amount of time on the river, house is high maintenance so spend a lot of time on that also along with footie when we are allowed to go watch.
As someone has said they do appreciate being run and I make a point of getting the 944 out for a 15 minute run to use the brakes and get it warmed through.
The C19 has not helped this year as it would have had a couple of runs to various events, hoping to take it to Spa next year.
As said fuel cost does not bother me as every mile is a smile !
The Alfa is a 2.0 jtdm ( diesel ) and is ridiculously frugal probably near enough 60 mpg on a run, flat as a pudding, but really great in the twists, stunning inside and out and a real drivers car.
The mini is just a little hooligan ??
Forecast nice weather later on in the week, will take the black pig for a run ??

I have a few things to play with too, house, grandkids, and now a bike as well as 4 cars, plus all those I look after for others

still managed 3000 miles in the 968

With this topic in mind I gave the 944 Turbo a good workout on Saturday evening, not driven it for awhile so sounded like a bicycle with a credit card trapped between the spokes for the first few miles until the oil had warmed up. Thankfully it then quietened down - so the lifters must have completely drained of oil?

Need to urgently get a boost gauge, check my vacuum hoses and wastegate as I'm still suffering from strange boost, most of the time it feels very very strong and the stock boost gauge pegs all the way to the right slightly pass the 2 bar mark so I'm worried that I've a sticky wastegate or broken cycling valve. Then the strong boost will disappear periodically so that it only goes to around 1.4 on the stock gauge. I'm also suspecting my CAT could be knackered as it appears to be the original 30 year old one, won't have chance to check it until I do some serious work on the car over winter and dismantle the exhaust system to get the rear suspension removed for refurb.

But even with this "slight" issue the car felt amazing - really missed driving it, I used to drive it everyday to work for 6 years and loved every minute of it putting about 90k miles on it.

Timed the drive just right between 19:00 and 21:00 and the roads were dead which equalled a very fun time down one of my favourite twisty roads nearby.
