Odd “Watery Oil” leak ?

Tizzy

New member
Sorry - me again

Hopefully the attached photo shows - I have a rather odd leak from the back of the engine that I can only really describe as being watery oil drip, that only happens occasionally after the car has been driven reasonably hard / warm and then the engine has cooled completely. The flange in the picture is where the drip drops from but that’s probably just because its the lowest point. The 10mm bolt was slightly loose and tweaked back up but only very slightly. I’m not sure where the flexible hose connects to (would be useful if anyone can shed any light there?) but the connection seems ok. There’s no obvious loss of oil or any pressure drop on driving etc, and it only happens occasionally! Thoughts appreciated - car is due into Cavendish Porscha on 27th for IMS change, RMS and engine mounts plus full check, so hopefully it’s nothing that will warrant attention before then!

Many thanks as always!

From you description, it sounds more like coolant than oil. Also, oil would give a black residue on the housing. The coolant does feel oily when you rub it between your fingers. The hose looks like the inlet (or outlet, not sure which) to the crankcase, and (if so) will go forward to the radiators at the front.

Thanks Richard - my thought was coolant as well but I’d have expected it to look more green / blue and smell more of antifreeze - but it does look like the coolant main union. My specialist says it’s likely to be a gasket and they’ll sort it when the IMS gets done! ??

cheers

Hi Chris
That connection is directly below the water pump, the seals on which can fail this could be the likely culprit.
Good luck
Andy
