993 Glovebox refuses to shut

Mike - the bulb is easy to remove if you want an alternative temporary fix! The plastic cover to the bulb can be removed with a blunt screw driver.

I've taken my glove box out a couple of times and it's a bit of a nightmare to get back in exactly the right place to make the door work smoothly but I don't ever recall having a problem getting it to stay closed.

Hi Guys
I have had my 993 now for 17 years and the glovebox has only ever been used occasionally.
Last week I decided to get the Handbook and Service wallet out. Could I close the glovebox afterwards? No.
Using the key didn't make any difference. The "U" shaped Clip would not click the catch.
The problem is if the door is left open, the glovebox light stays on and drains the battery. So I have had to wedge it shut, not pretty!
Anybody experienced this before?

Hi,

I did have a similar issue many years ago (2007 according to my records), so, difficult to remember the exact problem! I believe the "U" shaped clip was damaged and I had to replace it. I would say that if your catch is working (springs open and close), then it is quite possible that the "U" shaped clip has come slightly out of allignment. There is adjustment in that bracket and quite easy to manipulate, so worth a look.

Best of luck,

Noble

Hi,

I had the same problem a few years ago, when the catch wouldn't lock on to the 'U' shaped clip. The U-shaped clip is screwed to the top of the glove compartment and mine had worked its way slightly too far back. The clip's screw can be loosened, allowing you to slide it forward, re-tightened and hopefully the problem is sorted. Thankfully it worked for me and the solution was simpler than improvising a way to keep the glove compartment light off!

Hope you get it sorted out!

Peter

Thanks for your help. I got the philips screwdriver out and found the second screw which adjusts the depth of the "U" shaped clip. Once I had pulled the clip out further and tightened the clamping screw it closed perfectly.

Thanks once more
