They shine a light (UV I think) on the condenser and any leak "glows" in the light.

Replacement involves removal of the front bumper, disconnecting the pipework, removal and replacement of the leaking unit and recharging the air con.

I've had several replaced but all under extended warranty so can't comment on price but I would guess something close to £800?

Hi tscaptain

No far of with price I had one changed under warranty 2 years ago free so I guess its the other one if the is two on the car

Hi guys and girls
I have had my car in at main dealer and they have carried out free check and have picked up o/s/f aircon condenser slight leak ?? My question is how can they tell also is there one on both sides and what is the procedure to replacd as the quote from dealer is a bit high ??
Many thanks in advance
Steve

I changed the condensers on my car having seen my son do likewise. Medium difficulty DIY job. Parts were £340 from Design911 plus cost of emptying and refilling the zircon

Try jgcporsche.co.uk in Brackley, South Northants. NN13 7ES

I had an AC leak. Fixed by replacing O ring and re-gassed.

All under £120.

Yes, you can insert a dye in the aircon system and this does fluoresce. Under UV light it can be seen.

@Alvis10, don’t know where you are based? But I know a top mobile guy in the Midlands, he comes to your house, or you can go to his. Company is called Roadchill in Solihull costs was around £250 for both Condensers and a new dryer and regarding etc comes with 2 year warranty. i was very happy with the work done.

My off-side condenser is punctured (yes, there are two, one each side). Apparently a common problem as they can get damaged by stones, etc. flying in through the front vents. Had mine all booked in to be fixed... the week after lockdown started. Doh! Haven't yet booked a new slot. Was suggested these by my garage, might be worth considering as they also (apparently) stop the build-up of leaves in the main cooling vent. https://www.zunsport.com/en/porsche-boxster-987.1-front-grille-set

Thanks for all the replys not sure best way forward I am based in Shropshire I know this gas can be nasty and is not to be released into atmosphere??

My only thought on the DIY vs garage option is that the system will need recharging once repairs are complete. If you DIY and it leaks when recharged, the recharging centre will almost certainly charge you to do it again when the leak is repaired, whereas that (presumably) is all down to the garage if done there. Recharging/testing ain't cheap, so even a single repeated charge could easily cut away at the cost-savings from DIY.

Roadchill - Peter Steeley - i recommend him as well . Great service .

DIY mine a few years ago, if it is leaking most of the toxic gas has escaped so strip down is simple, takes a bit of time though.

Lots of articles on here/google/youtube to guide you.

Parts around £260, re-gas using the same toxic gas about £80.

After all that, invest in a set of intake mesh guards.

OPC did mine last year - both condersers were leaking due to corrosion. Nearly £1k for both but now with a 2 year warranty so hopefully no more problems. I'm told they all go after about 6 years anyway as they are stuck down the front with no protection for stones or the weather.

Thanks a lot for these tips!! I have the same problem now; it's helpful. True, I have not yet fully understood this problem, but these tips have helped me in many ways to understand the essence of the problem. I also want to consult with my service. He is very cool because he is always ready to give me various tips for free. When I needed preventive cleaning of the air conditioner, he recently sent me an article from his website about this: https://www.marvellous.sg/aircon-chemical-overhaul/. I didn't even think that specialists would give me free advice. It is a perfect way to attract customers. With this approach and the relationship with the client, I do not want to leave them at all. Try it; you won't regret it.
